Copic Coloring the Nativity Cover Plate

Hello there friends! Daniel West, here, with a fun coloring project featuring the Nativity Cover Plate and some Copic markers. This cover plate die has just the right amount of detail to make coloring it in rather simple. Take it a section at a time and you will love it.

Steps to create this project:

  1. To begin, I die cut the Nativity Cover Plate out of Dove White Cardstock.
  2. Then, I started coloring the star, rays and tops of the stable, holy family and animals with a light, creamy yellow – YR21. As I colored in the scene, I was careful not to cover up the light yellow hitting the tops of everything.
  3. Next, I colored the stable, Mary, Joseph and the sheep with light blues, B63, and B66.
  4. After that, I added some darker blues to Mary and Joseph and the upper part of the frame with B37 and B39.
  5. Next, I colored in the foreground, donkey, manger, and Joseph's staff with a BG99 and BG96.
  6. After that, I trimmed down a sheet of Nautical Cardstock to 4.25" x 5.5" inches and added stars to it with a gold gel pen.
  7. Then, I adhered the die cut to the front of the Nautical panel with Precision Glue.
  8. Next, I stamped a sentiment from the Christmas Robins stamp set onto a piece of Pitch Black Cardstock with Clear Embossing and Watermark Ink.
  9. Finally, I melted some Gold Embossing Powder over it, fussy cut it out, and popped it up on some foam tape.

I have a companion post to this card over on my blog today, where I deconstruct the cover plate die cut and create another card setup with it.

I hope you have enjoyed this project, and will give this coloring technique a try! Below we have included a grid of supplies for your convenience.

Have a wonderful day!
