How to Create a Simple Foiled Floral Card
This card combines hot foiling, Copic coloring, and shaped cardmaking techniques to create a polished and versatile floral design.
Step 1 – Foiling the Floral Image

- Plug in the Glimmer II Hot Foil System and allow it to heat up.
- Cut a piece of white cardstock and Matte Gold Glimmer Hot Foil sized to fit the floral Thanks in Bloom plate.

- Place the foil shiny side up onto the cardstock.
- Place the floral plate on top with the design facing down.
- Secure everything with Best Ever Craft Tape.
Designer Tip: Some crafters prefer placing the plate directly on the platform first and building the sandwich there. Experiment with both methods to see which works best for you.

- When the platform indicates it is ready, place the foiling sandwich onto the platform.
- Press the white button to begin the heating process.

- When the platform signals that foiling is complete, add the shims and unplug the unit.

- Slowly run the platform through the Platinum SIX Die Cutting Machine.

- Using one piece of tape as a handle, carefully lift the foil and plate.
- Place aside on a heat-resistant mat to cool.
Step 2 – Die Cut the Floral Panel

- Position the second largest Essential Arches die onto the foiled floral panel.
- Secure it with Best Ever Craft Tape.

- Run through the Platinum SIX Die Cutting Machine using the standard die-cutting sandwich.
Designer Tip: Securing the die with low-tack tape ensures it won't shift during cutting.
Step 3 – Color the Floral Image

- Add RV55 to the base of the flower petals.

- Add Y11 to the outer portions of the petals.

- Blend the colors together with RV52.
- Repeat the process for all remaining flowers.

- Add YG17 to the darkest portions of the leaves and stems.

- Blend outward with YG23.

- Finish the leaves with YG03.
Designer Tip: Light alcohol markers usually resist foiling well, but darker markers can sometimes cover the foil. If that happens, carefully restore the shine using a colorless blender pen.
Step 4 – Create the Shaped Card Base

- Die-cut two arch panels from Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock using the same die used for the floral panel.
- Score one panel approximately ¾" from the top edge to create a hinge.

- Add Tape Runner Adhesive to the hinge.
- Adhere the second arch panel on top.
Designer Tip: This shaped card technique works with almost any large nesting die shape.

- Adhere the colored floral panel to the front of the card base.
Step 5 – Create and Add the Sentiment

- Hot foil a sentiment from the Signature Sentiments Press & Foil Plate + Die Set onto white cardstock using Matte Gold Glimmer Hot Foil.
- Die cut using the coordinating die.

- Add foam squares to the back of the sentiment.

- Remove the release papers.
- Adhere the sentiment to the floral panel.
Step 6 – Embellish the Card

- Finish the card with Gold Mix Color Essentials Gems.

Tips for Better Foiled Floral Cards
- Use low-tack tape to prevent foiling plates and dies from shifting.
- Allow foiled images to cool before handling.
- Blend alcohol marker colors gradually for smoother transitions.
- Create shaped card bases using nesting dies for added visual interest.
- Coordinate your foil color with embellishments for a polished finish.
Ways to Customize This Project
- Try silver, rose gold, or colored foil instead of gold.
- Use colored pencils instead of alcohol markers.
- Create a traditional A2 card instead of a shaped card.
- Experiment with different floral color combinations.
- Swap the sentiment to suit birthdays, thank-you cards, or celebrations.
- Add ink blending behind the florals for additional depth.
