Four Seasons Inspiration | Spring & Winter Cards with Laurie

Hi everyone!  Laurie Schmidlin here and I am excited to be sharing my second guest post here on the Spellbinders blog, you can catch the first post here - I shared adorable gift boxes. For today's post I've created two cards with the Four Seasons Collection by Lene Lok.

When I first saw the Spring Canopy and Elements die set I thought the flowers would look lovely as a background!  The canopy is actually designed to fit on top of the Four Seasons Tree, but I wanted to see how it would look on its own.

I started by die cutting the canopy four times using a heavy weight watercolor paper.  I quickly added some watercolor paint, not spending too much time so it would have a more abstract look. After the flowers were completely dry, I used a spray adhesive to adhere them to a black cardstock panel.  There were many parts hanging off of the edge of the cardstock so I trimmed the edges to fit on the cardstock.

I embossed the celebrate sentiment using white embossing powder on black cardstock and adhered it at an angle.  I embellished with some lace and ribbon.  For the final touch, I die cut the butterfly (also included in the Spring Canopy and Elements die set) using heavy weight vellum.  To hide the glue where I adhered the butterfly to my card, I cut out one of the little flowers and added it to the butterfly.

For my second card, I paired the Four Seasons Tree with the Winter Canopy and Elements die set.  I love the creativity this whole collection inspires and how well everything works together!

Four Seasons Winter Wishes by Laurie Schmidlin for Spellbinders using S4-840 Four Seasons Tree, S4-844 Winter Canopy and Elements dies #spellbinders #diecutting #cardmaking

I started by watercoloring a background using cool blues and muted violets with just a hint of silver and gold paint added in.  After the paint was dry, I stitched on die cut vellum snowflakes (from the Winter Canopy and Elements die set) to create a frosty look.

I die cut the tree from the Four Seasons Tree die set out of Kraft cardstock.  I added a bit of gold paint to the tree to add some depth.  Before layering on the canopy, I added some clear glitter.

For the sentiment, I die cut the Winter word from the Seasonal Words die set out of shiny gold paper.  To complete the sentiment, I stamped the Wishes word using a muted lavender ink.
