Funny birthday cards are even more memorable when they combine a playful character with a relatable sentiment. This snack-themed birthday card features Chompster dressed in a party hat and holding a large slice of birthday cake. The colorful die-cut layers, dimensional cake, and sparkling gems create a cheerful design that is perfect for birthdays and other celebrations.
In this step-by-step tutorial, you’ll learn how to die cut and assemble Chompster, customize the character with accessories from the Snack Goals Collection, stamp the sentiment accurately, and add dimension without making the finished card too bulky. The One More Bite Etched Dies include several food choices, while the Top It Off Etched Dies provide accessories that make it easy to adapt Chompster for different occasions.

Die-cut Chompster from the Just Add Cake Birthday Cardmaking Kit:
Please note that the dies are shown upright in the reference photos to illustrate cardstock placement. When die-cutting, place the cutting edge directly against the cardstock.

Die-cut the hat pieces from Top It Off:

Die-cut the cake from One More Bite, and the candle from the Just Add Cake Cardmaking Kit:

Secure the dies with Best Ever Craft Tape and run them through the Platinum SIX Die Cutting Machine.

Turn the main body over and apply glue around the eye openings.

Adhere the white eye layer to the back and check the placement from the front.

Attach the black pupil layers.

Apply glue around the teeth and attach the body layer.

Adhere the mouth behind the opening.

Attach the base of the hat to the top of Chompster's head.

Layer the top section of the hat.

Assemble the bow and adhere it to the hat.

Adhere the jam layer to the cake base.

Attach the buttercream layer.

Add the frosting layer.

Attach the bite section to complete the cake.

Assemble the candle and flame.

Attach the completed candle to the cake.

Add foam squares to the back of the cake.
Designer Tip: Tweezers are extremely helpful for positioning small die-cut pieces and removing foam square backings.

Place the cake inside Chompster's mouth.

Attach the arms so Chompster appears to be holding the birthday cake.

Create a card base from Fairy Tale ColorWheel Cardstock measuring 4¼" × 5 7/16".
Place the card base into a Mini MISTI and use Chompster as a guide for sentiment placement.
Position the "birthdays happen treats help" sentiment from the Snack Goals Clear Stamp Set.

Ink the sentiment using Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink.

Stamp the sentiment onto the card front.

Add foam squares to the back of Chompster.

Remove the backing and adhere Chompster to the card front.
Please note that the hat slightly overhangs the card edge. The card will still fit inside a standard envelope because the card base is slightly smaller than a traditional A2 size.

Finish the design with Prism AB Color Essentials Gems.

Yes. Chompster works beautifully on his own or with products from the Just Add Cake Birthday Cardmaking Kit.
Liquid adhesive is ideal for assembly, while foam squares help create dimension when attaching completed pieces to a card front.
Absolutely. Different foods, accessories, and sentiments make it easy to use Chompster for many occasions throughout the year.
The added dimension helps separate the cake from the character and creates a more interactive layered appearance.
Chompster continues to be one of the most fun characters to create with, and the Snack Goals Collection adds even more ways to customize his personality. By combining colorful cardstock, playful accessories, and humorous sentiments, you can create birthday cards that are full of charm and character.
The different foods, accessories, and sentiments in the collection make it easy to create unique designs for birthdays and beyond.
