Clean and Simple Christmas Card with Frosty Skates

Hello there, Michelle Short here to share a step-by-step tutorial with you using the new Frosty Skates Etched Dies from the Frank Garcia Christmas Blush collection. This wonderful collection has a shabby chic feel to it, but I wanted to show that it can be used for a contemporary, clean, and simple design too, combining the skates with winter foliage.

Die-cut the Frosty Skates Etched Dies:

NOTE: The dies are shown in the photo facing upwards, so that you can see which die is cut from which cardstock. When die cutting, you need to have the cut side facing down onto the cardstock.

1. Place main boot dies onto Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
2. Place blade die onto Brushed Silver Treasured Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
3. Place sole of boot die onto Fawn ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
4. Place inside of heel die onto Truffle ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
5. Place eyelet dies onto Fairy Tale ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
6. Place ruffle dies onto Lavender ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape. Please note: only two are used for this card but if using the third, die-cut using the same cardstock.
7. Place laces and bow dies onto Lilac ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.

8. Run through Platinum Six Die Cutting Machine using the following sandwich (bottom to top):

• A Platform Base
• B Platform Top
• C Cutting Plate
• Cardstock with die on top
• C Cutting Plate

9. Die-cut foliage from Christmas Bird Poinsettia Etched Dies from Peridot and Rainforest ColorWheel Cardstock. Die-cut the wider of the two evergreen stems twice.

10. Turn the eyelet die-cut over and add small dabs of Bearly Art Glue on the back, around the openings.

TIP: Tweezers are great for both holding die cuts to add glue on them and for placing die cuts down.

11. Adhere to front of boot.

Please note: if using front ruffle, adhere that to the boot first, followed by the eyelet piece.

12. Add glue to the back eyelet piece.
13. Adhere back of boot/tongue of boot on top.

14. Add glue onto the bottom of the back of boot/tongue of boot.
15. Adhere front of boot piece on top.

16. Add glue to the inside heel piece.
17. Adhere sole on top.

18. Add glue at the top of the sole piece.
19. Adhere boot on top.

20. Add glue onto the top of the blade.
21. Adhere boot and sole on top.

22. Adhere laces onto skate. Start with the main piece and then adhere singular lace pieces on top.

23. Add glue to the bottom of the ruffles.
24. Adhere skate on top.

25. Adhere tails to back of bow.
26. Adhere to skates.
27. Repeat process for the second skate.

1. Using the skates as a guide, adhere foliage to an A2-sized (4.25” x 5.5”) white card base using Bearly Art Glue.

2. Add foam squares onto the back of the skates – cover the back of the skate that will be at the bottom; add foam squares to the skate that will be at the front on the left side only.

3. Adhere skates to card.

1. Plug Glimmer Hot Foil System in and switch on.
2. Cut small piece of Opaque Black Glimmer Hot Foil Roll and place the shiny side up onto a piece of Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock.
3. Take Christmas Blush Sentiments Press + Foil Plate and place impression side down on top of the foil.
4. Hold foil and plate in place onto cardstock using Best Ever Craft Tape.

NOTE: There are different methods of hot foiling. It is not necessary to hold plates onto the foil and cardstock, but it does help to prevent shifting when running through a die-cutting machine. If you are a beginner to hot foiling, try a few different methods and see which one works best for you.

5. When green ‘platform ready’ light shines green, place cardstock/foil/plate on top, plate side down.
6. Press timer button. This will flash green on and off while the plate is heating up.

7. Once light turns solid green, remove platform from base and place shims on top.

8. Run through Platinum Six Die Cutting Machine.
9. Place platform back into base.
10. Remove shims.
11. Carefully remove cardstock/foil/plate.

12. Using the tape as a handle, lift foil and plate from cardstock.
13. Place onto silicone mat to cool the plate.

14. Place coordinating die over the sentiment.
15. Hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
16. Run through Platinum Six Die Cutting Machine using the same process as in step 1.
17. Pop sentiment out from die.

18. Add foam squares to the right of the sentiment. Add glue to the left.
19. Remove backings off foam squares.
20. Adhere to card.

1. Embellish card with Silver Mix Color Essentials Gems.

TIP: A precision tool is really helpful when picking up and placing down gems.

As you can see, I did not add all the elements to the skates, but I still think they look nice! That is the great thing with sets like these, you can customize them to suite your needs! I think this card design would work well for a general winter card too, rather than just for Christmas by simply changing the sentiment. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today.
