I think a lot of us have been intimidated by the term mixed media, so I'm here to break it down today. Mixed media means take two or more mediums and use them together - that's it! So, for example, if you use ink on a card - which we almost always do, and you use a second medium, like Hero Paste or Liquid Watercolor or even embossing powder - you have made a mixed media card! Boom! Easy as pie, and not intimidating at all. Mixed media cards can be clean and simple too - so that's another myth busted. My favorite mixed media cards are using a mixed media background - like a gel print - and die cutting a shape from it and using that on a clean white or black card base.
Today I'm bringing you a fall mixed media card for a little something different.
To make the background, I brayered turquoise and a small amount of red alcohol ink onto my gel plate. Then I applied Alcohol Lift Ink (you can just use a paper towel soaked in rubbing alcohol as an ink pad for this technique as well) to the Leaves in the Wind Bold Prints background stamp and pressed that onto the dry alcohol ink on my plate to lift that fun leaf pattern out. Then I rolled out a thin layer of white paint on top of the dry ink to pull a print, lifting that pretty pattern in ink off the plate. I got a bonus bit of paint with this pull - that red paint - that is the beauty of not cleaning your plate before printing - little grungy surprises for free!
When that was dry, I used a sponge and the Gold Glimmer Metallic Ink through the Floral Tile Stencil for some shiny highlights here and there.
I cut the leaf from cold press watercolor paper using the Autumn Leaves Fancy Dies set, and watercolored it with Daniel Smith watercolor - Quinacridone Sienna and Indian yellow, and I splattered it with drops of Amazonite.

Stunning color combo, I love this card!
