Hello there, crafty friends! Marie here again with a simple yet fun tutorial featuring the Winged Shadows Press + Foil plates from the Midnight Mischief collection!
This Winged Shadows plate presses a fun pattern of bats into your card backgrounds, which is what I did in the card I am featuring. I’ll also show you a bonus card I created using the leftover foil negative from my first card. Let’s get started!
Cut Out Card Layers
I’m using a light grey cardstock that I cut out with the Color Block Accent Rectangles die set. The grey is cut to an A2 size that will layer over my black cardstock base.
Speckle It!
Using some black ink mixed with water, I added speckles all over the grey color block panel. We will be adding another layer over the center of this panel, so I focused mainly on adding the speckles around the edges.
Add Bats
Using the Precision Layering A2 dies, I cut a panel of the same grey cardstock to layer in the middle of my card. Then, I grabbed the Winged Shadows Press + Foil plate to add bats to this panel.
These Press + Foil plates do exactly what they’re named for! They can be used with the BetterPress platform, and they can foil. I decided to add these bats in black foil.
Looks fantastic! Don’t throw away the foil negative, though! I’ll show you another way to use it at the end of this tutorial.
Press a Sentiment
Now that we have our bats added, we need a sentiment. I used one of the sentiments from the Winged Mischief set and added it onto my panel with black ink and my Better Press platform.
Adhere Layers Together
After all the layers are prepped and ready, just layer together! I added the Color Block Rectangle with liquid glue to the bottom black cardstock, and then I added the bat layer with some foam adhesive. Easy and looks great!
BONUS TIP
Remember when I mentioned not to throw away your foil negative? I’m going to show how to add it to a background to get a second card out of it. I love finding ways to stretch my materials.
Ink blend a background, and then heat up your foil platform for your foil negative. You can add the foil negative to the background using the Spellbinders Solid Rectangle Glimmer plate!
As you can see, my results were not perfect. But since this is a Halloween card, the distressed look works!
