Tiny Stamps, Tiny Scenes

Hey there my friends, Daniel here with my take on this week's Stay Crafty with Hero Challenge. We have taken a special interest in our smallest stamps in our sets for this "Small Joys" challenge. How fun to dream up new cards with our tiny stamps.

I decided to try something I call "Tiny Scene Building." I'm sure someone else has already come up with this, but it I have never used the term before, so it's new to me. Tiny Scene Building showcases the power of clean and simple card design. You cannot eschew white space with this technique. White space wants you as its friend.

I used little stamps from several stamp sets. A list will help, here:

• Build a Castle Stamp Set -- Clouds, Castle Tower, Huzzah sentiment
• Unbearably Thankful Stamp Set -- Hive, Bees, Bee Lines, sentiment
• Zest Wishes Stamp Set -- Tree Branch
• Sunflower Field HeroScape -- Birds, Fence
• Bandicoot & Friends -- Trees

For the first card, I stamped out the hive and bees, then colored them in with yellow-red Copic markers. Then, I stamped out the cloud images on some copy paper and fussy cut them out to create masks - one for the small cloud and one for the large cloud. I stamped out the larger of the two three times, then masked in the same image twice behind the first clouds.

Next, I stamped the branch off the side of the panel with Intens-ified Black Ink. Then, I colored in the clouds with blue violet Copic markers. To give the little scene a sense of connectedness to the sky, without coloring in the whole panel, I colored around each image with a very light blue Copic marker.

To finish off the card, I stamped the sentiment below the clouds. Then, I trimmed my panel down to 4 x 5.25" and popped it up on the front of an A2-sized card base with fun foam.

For my second card, I followed much the same path. This time, I created a tiny castle scene with a leaf stamp as trees. To begin, I stamped out some of the clouds and masked in the castle tower behind them. Then, I masked the tower, and stamped another cloud behind it. Next, I stamped the birds from the Sunflower Field set below the tower.

Then, I stamped the little leaf stamp in a row under the birds, staggering them a bit. After that, I added a row of the fence image below the trees. Next, I colored in my scene with Copic markers, outlining everything with light blue, as in the first card.

I finished off the second card with the sentiment, Huzzah! And then, trimming the panel and popping it up, just as with the first card.

How fun to give life to the tiniest of stamps in your collection. I have enjoyed seeing your creations so far with this challenge and hope that I have inspired you to try using this tiny scene building technique to create even more!
