MMH Countdown to Creativity

For this Countdown to Creativity post, leading up the launch of the My Monthly Hero kit on Monday, March 7 at noon eastern, I wanted to show you another card using the add-on stamp set, called CL964 Marianne's Flowers. This is the same set that Marianne introduced you to in Idea #4. But I'm showing you that it's perfectly lovely to use, even if you don't own any Copic markers!

You're The Best by Jayne Nelson for Hero Arts

To create my card, I selected the small cluster of flowers from Marianne's Flowers. Using ordinary colored pencils, I colored and fussy-cut the image four times. On the fourth image, I cut a single flower and discarded the rest of the flowers. I layered some patterned and solid papers along the lower edge of the card, and then covered the card front with a panel of yellow layering paper that I heat-embossed with [hero_product_link sku="CG689"] using [hero_product_link sku="PW118"]. After wrapping the card with a satin bow, I adhered the colored flowers to the card. I added a sentiment banner that I created with yet another add-on to the March kit - DC184 Ribbon Messages Stamp & Cut. I heat-embossed with a sentiment from [hero_product_link sku="CL954"] onto the banner.

MMH Countdown to Creativity

For this peek as we countdown to the March My Monthly Hero launch, kit artist Marianne Walker is joining us again to talk more about some of the add-ons to the kit! We will have available for purchase both a coloring guide written by Marianne - autographed by the author! - as well as an add-on stamp set called CL964 Marianne's Flowers that coordinates with the book! How cool is that? We're super excited about these products - they will give anyone who wishes they could color like Marianne (I'm on that list!!) an opportunity to learn a few tips! Take it away, Marianne!

Working with Hero Arts on this monthly kit has been so much fun! Last year, when I wrote the Coloring Flowers with Copic Markers book, I had hoped that someday it could be part of a fun stamp kit, and now it is!

PS755

For this card, I stamped the single rose, and colored it in with Copic marker colors V12, V15, V17, YG41, YG45, Y00, and BG000, BG01, and BG13. I picked these colors since they coordinated perfectly with the notecards I got in my kit. I used the techniques outlined in the book, since it teaches you how to add yellow highlights to the tips of the leaves in front, how to add complimentary colors into the shadows to make images pop, and so many more little coloring tidbits.

If you work through the book, it steps you through simple flowers, working to more complicated images (like this rose). This variety is what I love about the stamp set as well. In the Hero Arts set are simple flowers similar to projects in the book, as well as flowers that match the more difficult projects.

I had a lot of fun with all the tools included in the set, from the coordinating pearls and gems, to the colored card bases. I hope you also have a lot of fun working with these supplies, and I can’t wait to see what you make!

Thanks Marianne! We think this is so exciting - as you practice your coloring, you can stamp as many of the flowers as you need to keep practicing, and they coordinate with what's presented in the book!

MMH Countdown to Creativity

Hello and welcome to Day 2 of our Countdown to Creativity, leading up to Monday's launch of the March My Monthly Hero kit! Today Jayne is sharing a couple notecards she created with some of the stamps in the kit. Here's Jayne:

Today I'm sharing a pair of square notecards that I made using two beautiful floral images included in this month's stamp set. I've used a small selection of my ordinary colored pencils to color two of the largest sunflower image and two of the smaller daisy image. After coloring each flower blossom, I fussy-cut the images, however, this month's set includes matching dies that will make cutting these flowers a breeze.

I layered the smaller flowers over the larger blossoms with foam tape for extra dimension. Then, I cut squares of black layering paper, die cut circles in the centers, and heat embossed the "hello" sentiment from [hero_product_link sku="CL946"] with [hero_product_link sku="PW110" text="white embossing powder"] in the lower right corners. To provide extra support behind the flowers, I added clear acetate to the backs of the squares. After adhering a flower across each circle, I layered the finished squares over cards that I made from [hero_product_link sku="PS621" text="Sunshine Layering Papers"] and [hero_product_link sku="PS619" text="Floral Mix Layering Papers"].

I finished each card with a trio of sparkly gems and a pretty twine bow.

Thanks Jayne! We love your sweet little notecards!
