Awesome Add-ons: March 2019 Edition

Hi stampers, it’s time for this month’s Awesome Add-ons feature! Before we dive into the project inspiration, here’s a look at all of the add-on products that were introduced along with the March My Monthly Hero kit -- 17 fun new products that work beautifully on their own, or with the main kit. Many kit lovers have also mentioned to us that they're looking forward to pairing some of these products up with past kits!

Today we're delighted to have Debi Adams here to share some fabulous “beyond the kit” ideas for a few of the add-ons. Take it away, Debi...

Hi friends! Debi Adams here and happy to share two cards from the March My Monthly Hero kit add-ons. I mean, I like these sets as much as the main kit. They are whimsical yet clean and simple and a lot of fun to color. And I absolutely loved the ocean theme.

Both of the cards today have a unique style to the card base. The betta fish card uses a Frame Cut that allows a dimensional image to come through the window. And the cat card you see further down, has a flap to the side of the card. For me, I always like to challenge myself to take a different twist on a standard card.

I cut out part of the card using half of a die and raised the corresponding stamp and die to actually pop through the cut of the card. I’m all about dimensionality. I love have things not so flat. And thankfully, this one isn’t complicated...

1. Cut a piece of Dove White cardstock, 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”.
2. Score two lines, one at 4 1/4” and another just 1/4” more. Fold on crease lines.
3. Die-cut a frame from Pitch Black cardstock using Rectangle Infinity Dies, one fit inside the other.
4. Use the center cut from the above frame to cut another frame from the front of the card base.
5. Attach black frame to cut out area.
6. Use the coordinating fish Frame Cut to cut out a portion of the frame on the card.
7. Adhere a strip of patterned paper on the inside of the card to fit behind the rectangular window.
8. Stamp fish and seaweed onto Dove White cardstock using Intense Black Ink.
9. Die-cut images from coordinating dies.
10. Color in fish using markers.
11. Color in seaweed using a sponge dauber and Green Apple and Emerald Green Ink.
12. Attach seaweed to card.
13. Stamp sentiment onto card front using Intense Black Ink.
14. Position fish into cut-out area and adhere to card using foam dots.
15. Add Distress Stickles where desired.

Supplies
Hero Arts: CM343 Color Layering Betta Fish, DI622 Color Layering Betta Frame Cuts, DI198 Nesting Rectangle Infinity Dies, PS325 Dove White Cardstock, PS323 Pitch Black Cardstock, AF344 Green Apple Ink, AF315 Emerald Green Ink, AF345 Intense Black Ink, MI002 Sponge Daubers
Other: Scoring tool, foam dots, patterned paper of your choice, Copic markers of your choice, Distress Iridescent Stickles

The cat card extends the base card so that there is flap on the right hand side. I used sticky-backed velcro for closure. I liked overextending the cat image on the flap. Just a different way to create a card.

1. Cut a piece of Dove White Cardstock 5 1/2” high x 10” long.
2. Score 4 1/4” in on one end of white cardstock and score 1 1/2” from other end. Fold both creases as indicated.
3. Apply Fish & Bubbles Confetti die to front of card, using a foam pad on the bottom and an embossing plate on the top to prevent the die from cutting.
4. Attach a piece of 2 3/4” x 3 1/4” Dove White cardstock rectangle to front of card.
5. Stamp cats, bowl, fishes onto Dove White cardstock using Intense Black ink.
6. Color images using Copic markers of your choice.
7. Die-cut images and attach to card base except the one “side” fish.
8. Stamp and emboss sentiment onto a small strip of Pitch Black cardstock using VersaMark and white embossing powder.
9. Attach sentiment to flap side. Attach fish with foam dots.
10. Place a small piece of Velcro behind cat on flap and attach the other to the front of the card.

Supplies
Hero Arts: CM347 Curious Cat, DI626 Curious Cat Die Cut, DI628 Fish & Bubbles Confetti Die, PS325 Dove White Cardstock, PS323 Pitch Black Cardstock, PW110 White Embossing Powder, VC250 VersaMark, AF345 Intense Black Ink, PW200 Embossing Tool
Other: Foam dots, Copic markers of your choice, scoring tool, Velcro

And there you have it. I love trying something a bit different when it comes to card making. What about you? Where do you get your inspiration?

XO,
Debi
