Shaped Christmas Cards Made Easy!
Jul 22, 2023
Hey there, crafty friends! It's Leica here, and today I want to share three unique Christmas card ideas with you. These cards are different from the usual rectangular shape. Spellbinders has a great variety of shape dies, and the largest die from any set works perfectly as a card panel. Plus, they fit nicely inside an A2-sized envelope!
For all three cards, I used the largest dies from each set. I cut the bigger shape out of colored cardstock and the smaller one out of white cardstock. To add some texture, I ran all the white panels through a die-cut machine using the Vintage Ornaments 3D Embossing Folder. As for the card base, I simply cut a piece of white cardstock using the larger die, scored and folded it at the 0.75-inch mark, and glued the tab onto the card panel. By the way, Spellbinders has fantastic colored cardstock, so I used their cardstock for all my cards.
Let's talk about the first card! I used the Essential Stylish Ovals set. From Santa's Here Etched Dies, I cut out the pieces and assembled them with liquid glue. Santa is the star of the card, looking adorable with his brown bag full of gifts and a bell in his left hand. To add a festive message, I used the Christmas Die & Glimmer Sentiments Hot Foil Plate and Die Set. It's a great combination of glimmer and die cut, which gives a special touch to my card. To add a touch of sparkle, I scattered some Gold Mix Gems here and there. It adds just the right amount of shine and makes the card more interesting.
Now, onto the second card! I used the Essential Floral Reflection Etched Dies and paired them with the Christmas Bird Poinsettia Etched Dies. I wanted to include as many elements as possible on the card panel. Before gluing everything down, I splattered some white ink to create additional interest, and I added some glitter to the candy cane.
Finally, let's talk about my last card. I used the Essential Diamonds Etched Dies and combined them with the Bottle Brush Trees Duo Etched Dies. This set is a larger version of the Bottle Brush Trees Etched Dies. Although I think it would look amazing to use both sets on one card, I decided to use the smaller tree from the new set for my card. The star on top of the tree is from the Parcel & Post Christmas Decorations Etched Dies.
I had a blast creating these Christmas cards in July. It's great to get a head start on making Christmas cards. I hope I've inspired you to create some unique-shaped cards for your loved ones. Happy crafting!
