I am sharing three ways to use
Winters Borders Etched Dies featuring the
Holiday Cheer Enclosed Collection!
MAKE A BORDER!
Let’s start with the obvious way to use border dies...as a border!! For this card, I began by stamping the adorable pup from the
Christmas Pups Stamp Set onto white cardstock with Copic-friendly black ink. I colored them with Copic markers, added highlights with a white gel pen and fussy cut them out (the dies are included in the set, but I didn’t have them at the time).
Next, I die-cut all of the borders using the
Winter Borders Etched Dies. The holly leaf edge border was cut from
Fern cardstock, the dotted scallop edge border from
white cardstock and the dotted wave edge border from
Phone Booth cardstock. I trimmed a panel of
white cardstock to approximately 3’ wide and 5.5” tall and cut the cross stitch edge along the left side. The sentiment, from the
Santa Paws Sentiments Stamp Set, was stamped onto the panel with black ink.
The borders were layered and adhered onto the left side of a white, A2 card base and the white panel was adhered over them, flush with the right side of the card panel. The pup was popped up with foam adhesive. I added some
Red Mix Color Essential Gems along the holly leaves for a bit of sparkle and shine.
MAKE A FRAME!
Another way to use border dies is to create a frame. This is the perfect way to draw your eye in to the focal point of a card!! I began by die-cutting the diamond circle edge die from the
Winter Borders Etched Die Set four times from
white cardstock. They were adhered to an A2 panel of polka-dot patterned paper from the
Santa Lane Paper Pad, mitering the corners. I trimmed the length of the panel by approximately ½" and adhered it to a white card base that was trimmed to the same size.
The puppy and accessories were cut from
Phone Booth,
Alabaster,
Onyx, brown and
white cardstock using the
Special Pet Delivery Etched Dies. He was adhered together as shown, then popped up in the center of the card with foam adhesive.
The sentiment, from the
Christmas Pups Stamp Set, was white heat embossed onto
Phone Booth cardstock, trimmed into a narrow strip, and adhered with foam tape. A
Red Mix Color Essential Gem was added to his nose for a bit of whimsy!!
MAKE A BACKGROUND!
My final idea for using the
Winter Borders Dies is to create a background. I adhered the three stitched edge dies from the set diagonally across an A2 panel of
white cardstock and ran them through my
Platinum 6. I moved the dies and cut them into the background repeatedly until the entire panel was filled. I trimmed the panel slightly and adhered it to an A2 panel of
Phone Booth cardstock, then a white card base.
I stamped the darling puppy from the
Christmas Pups Stamp Set onto
white cardstock with Copic-friendly black ink. I colored him with Copic markers, added highlights with a white gel pen and fussy cut him out. The frame was die-cut from
Phone Booth cardstock using a die in the
Special Pet Delivery Etched Die Set.
The sentiment, also from
Christmas Pups, was white heat embossed onto an
Onyx cardstock strip, then popped up, along with the pup, with foam tape. I die-cut the
Classic Happy Holidays Etched Dies from
Phone Booth and
Onyx cardstock, adhered them together slightly off-set, then adhered them under the sentiment strip with liquid adhesive. Finally, a
Red Mix Color Essential Gem was added to the ornament and this one was finished!!

Versamark, Scotch foam tape, liquid glue, 110 & 80 lb. white cardstock, brown cardstock, white detail embossing powder, white gel pen, Copic markers.
