Video: Winding Road HeroScape & Brayered Backgrounds

Hello friends! It's Mindy with you today to share inspiration using the new Winding Road HeroScape and also share one of my favorite ways to ink up a large background and that is by using a rubber brayer.

I have a video tutorial that you can view down below or HERE on the Hero Arts YouTube channel.

I fell in love with the Winding Road HeroScape the moment I saw it! Honestly that is pretty normal for any HeroScape but the reason this one caught my eye so fast is because it reminded me of my state: Wisconsin. Winding roads, tall trees and endless sky possibilities.

I had already created a soft ink blended sky on my blog so I wanted to try a nighttime sky by using the Star Light Star Bright Bold Prints stamp. Full disclosure, I really wanted to use the Milky Way Bold Prints but couldn't find it in my stash lol.

Before I get carried away with the background, let's first talk about the HeroScape. I chose Green Hills and Pine ink for the trees but I think this would be great to experiment with colors and maybe create Fall colored trees.

Another thought that didn't hit me until typing out this post is that instead of stamping the road in Granite ink, maybe lightly ink blend on some light blue to make it a river flowing in between the trees. How cool would that be! I should have tried that.

So back to the background. I love Bold Prints and the easiest way I found to ink them up and get super smooth results is using my rubber brayer. Be sure to watch the video for all my tips on how to use this tool.

I used Green Apple , Indigo , and Deep Ocean for the background. I sort of lost the green because the HeroScape takes up a lot of room but it's still fun to play and experiment.

Although there are lots of great sentiments in the Winding Road HeroScape , I wanted something big and bold at the top. I brought out my Love You Stamp & Cut XL and die cut the word YOU from gold glitter cardstock . I layered it up with white cardstock and Precision Glue to add dimension and put some separation between that and the background.

I love using my Compact Cutter for smaller die cuts. It is a perfect size to place on my desk without taking up a ton of room.

I share lots of my thought process in the video so be sure to catch that on the Hero Arts YouTube channe l .

This also makes for great masculine cards (although I would be thrilled to get a card like this too!)

Thanks for joining me today.

Patricia E Wilson,

I love this card, so pretty and makes me think of growing up on the farm. You’re right there is never just one deer. Thanks for sharing your tips and techniques with us. Appreciate it.

Barbara-Jean Kubik,

What a spectacular card!
