CommUNITY: Inspiration from Carol Weatherspoon

Hi friends! Today we are here with an installment of our monthly series, CommUNITY, where we share artwork from artists who we'd love for you to get to know. CommUNITY is about embracing and honoring the creativity of individuals who are often underrepresented. By sharing art from a diverse group of creators, we hope to not only bring inspiration to this papercrafting community we all love so much, but also support and empower individuals to be their authentic selves as they create and share. Look for a new CommUNITY guest artist right here on the blog each month. Today our amazing guest is Carol Weatherspoon!

Hello Friends, my name is Carol Weatherspoon and I've been crafting for close to 20 years. I found my love for cardmaking about 15 years ago and I haven't looked back! I have been blessed to serve on several Design Teams including, Taylored Expressions, Scrapbook.com, LDRS Creative, Ink Blot Shop, Pawsome Stamps, Cocoa Daisy and Whimsy Stamps. I’ve also had the privilege to be a Guest Designer for Gina K Designs, Spellbinders and Erin Lee Creative.

I absolutely love the Hero Arts Unity Collection and I'm super excited to be here on the blog today! For my first card, I used the beautiful Better Together stamp set. The moment I saw this stamp, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

First, I pulled out the Sun Background stencil and used a bright yellow ink for my blending. I definitely wanted a bright and vibrant color palette for this card. Next, I stamped that gorgeous image from the Better Together set and colored the images with alcohol markers. I fussy cut the image and added it to the middle of my side-folding, A2 size card. To finish off my card, I added an amazing sentiment from the Empowerment stamp set along with a few sequins for a little bling. This card just gives me all the feels.

Next up is my version of a mixed media card. I love text background stamps and I thought it would look super cool with the Together Window Fancy Die. So, I pulled out the Novel Prose Bold Prints background stamp and stamped it onto my card panel. And, it wouldn’t be a mixed media card without a little splatter, so I added ink splatter onto the panel as well. Next, I stamped a sentiment from the retired Kids United stamp set (one of my faves from the collection), fussy cut it and popped it up in the middle of my card. I also added a few sequins for some added sparkle. To me, this card is saying; Extra! Extra! Read all about it, United We Can Do So Much!

Carol, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful cards and talent with us today! You can find more of Carol's stunning creations over on Instagram, Facebook, or her blog: Typed in Pink!
