Celebrating Black Crafters - Special Guest Timothy Thomas

Hi friends! Today we are excited to kick off our new monthly series: Celebrating Black Crafters - Honoring Black History Throughout The Year. The idea for this series came about while planning our celebration of friendship and unity during Black History Month. We felt that Black History is American History, and should be celebrated throughout the year, not only during February. In that spirit we began this monthly feature, where we will share artwork from Black artists who we'd love for you to get to know! As the quote from our Empowerment set reads, "When we support each other incredible things happen"!

So without further adieu, let's meet our first guest artist: Timothy Thomas!

Hello, my name is Timothy Thomas. I was born and raised in Arizona and I love crafting. I have 9 siblings and I’m known as the creative one. I started doing scrapbooks in high school (1995-1999) but really got into cardmaking in 2014. I can see art in nature and that inspires me to create. One of my favorite Artists is Mindy Beverly and she is very inspirational to me. My go to markers for coloring are Prismacolor, but I’m slowly building my Copic collection.

For Timothy's beautiful card, he worked with our World Goddess woodblock stamp as well as the Empowerment clear set. Timothy's post was inspired by International Women's Day last week. And what an incredible card to honor women everywhere!

Here's some information from Timothy about how he created this card: I colored the World Goddess stamp with Prismacolor markers and I used a gold Sharpie to color in the stars. I used a stitched outline die for the border. I chose a Gilded Ink pattern paper for the background, which I enclosed in an A2 size clear envelope. I added a few pinches of golden star sequins inside the clear envelope to turn it into a shaker card.

Thank you so much for sharing your art with us, Timothy!

You can find Timothy on Instagram as @timman23 and if you're on Instagram, we'd love if you'd follow him!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Sharon Suske,

What a beautiful card and I celebrate diversity with Hero Arts! Nice to meet you, Timothy!

Patsy A,

OMG This card is beautiful. I didn’t realize it was a giant shaker until I read about Timothy’s process. I am definitely going to give it a try. It’s just stunning and the colors palette is strong but calming.

Dawn,

Beautiful card. Very inspiring. Using a clear envelope for the shaker card is a great idea.

Aaron Leventhal,

Thank you for sharing Timothy! What a beautifully creative card and story of what inspires you. Appreciate it. For so many years it felt like black stampers were under represented, which we can all work to change together. Also, male stampers. I remember back in the early 2000s, other then Tim Holtz, it felt at times like there just weren’t any creative men in scrapbooking or cardmaking (which of course wasn’t true). Glad to hear you were stamping back then and continue to do so today.

Robin Marshall Clark,

This is such a beautiful card! Your coloring is inspiring to a novice like me. Excellent job!
