August My Monthly Hero Countdown: Idea #5 + Giveaway!

August My Monthly Hero Countdown: Idea #5 + Giveaway!

Hello and welcome as we continue the countdown to the release of the August My Monthly Hero Kit! Release day is Monday, August 6th at 1pm Eastern/10 am Pacific. Today is the last day of sneak reveals. We are sharing ideas for using both the main kit, as well as the new optional add-on products that will also be available tomorrow. Stay tuned for another peek at 11am PST! Now let's join Janette for a another look at this fantastic coffee and tea inspired kit.

Good morning, crafters! I am a coffee drinker. One cup, more cream than coffee, each morning gets me going. Let's be honest, life begins after coffee. Occasionally, I'll have a bit of a crafty bender and indulge in the evening too. Needless to say, I was super excited when I caught a glimpse of this kit!

There are a variety a cup styles included in the kit this month. I've used several, starting with the cup in the front, masking each as I stamped in a light Soft Vanilla Ink on watercolor paper, moving toward the back images.

I watercolored each background cup, along with the shadows, in Black Liquid Watercolor and the new add-on shade, Cocoa. The focal image was then watercolored in Dandelion and Pink. To achieve the look of the wispy background, liberally wet the area with clear water. Then load brush with full strength color, painting in the darkest areas. Let the color bloom into the wet area, untouched as much as possible, for the most organic look. Colors used here are Teal, Deep Ocean, and Indigo.

I also added a fun textural element by applying kit included Crystal Clear Lacquer. While wet I coated it with kit included White Puff Embossing Powder and heated it, just like I was embossing. The lacquer bubbles, the embossing powder melts, and we are left with a yummy whip! The lacquer will still be wet underneath. Allow to dry overnight. Stamp sentiment in Black, round a couple of corners and adhere to Black Folded Card.

Win a kit before you can buy it! Just leave a comment on this (and every) Countdown to Creativity post! We'll randomly draw one lucky winner from all the comments left across all the countdown posts, and announce the winner first thing Monday morning, August 6th, before the kit launches at 1pm Eastern time. The more you comment, the more chances to win! Good luck!

Stay tuned for one more countdown to creativity post at 11am PST!

I love the dandelion and pink together! I will have to try the embossing to make the whip. That is so neat!

okay I am loving EVERYTHING about this beautiful card!!! I’m hoping there is perhaps a process video on the ‘blooming’ watercolor background technique because I’d love to learn how to create that.

Janet, your card it’s a fun friend’s coffee get together invite look that I would love to copy if you don’t mind. I just keep looking at the cup in the front how it stands out from the others with all that whip cream that looks so yummy! Nevertheless, the rest of the cups are very inviting too.
Your card looks more like a wall canvas then like a card, since I love making mixed media canvas, I love it. Tfs.
