Video: Color Mixing with the August My Monthly Hero Kit

Hello, friends! It’s Channin here and today I’m creating a colorful watercolored card with the August 2021 My Monthly Hero Kit ! In today’s video I will demonstrate how I created essentially 32 colors with just the three liquid watercolors included in the kit!!

(If you are having trouble viewing this video, please try watching it  HERE  on YouTube.)

To create this card I first stamped and white heat embossed the large cling background stamp from the kit onto a panel of watercolor paper. Then with an eight-welled paint palette and the three liquid watercolors, I mixed eight different shades of watercolor. Next, I watercolored each section of the outer-ring of the design with one of the eight colors. Also after I finished painting a section I would add drops of water with my brush to add texture.

Once I finished the outer-ring I moved onto the the next ring. For each section in this ring I mixed two of the original eight colors, whichever colors were adjacent to the section, to create the new shade. I repeated this process till I watercolored all the sections in this ring.

For the third ring, I mixed the new shades with each other and then painted the appropriate section. I also incorporated more water into my new shades to lighten them up and create more contrast. For the final ring, I added even more water to my mixes and painted the last eight sections.

Next, I trimmed down my panel to 4 1/8” x 5 1/2” and then adhered it to an A2 panel of Pitch Black cardstock. I then adhered the panel onto an A2 top-folding white card base . Next, I stamped and white heat embossed a sentiment on black cardstock. I then trimmed the sentiment down to a strip and finished the card by adhering it to the card front with foam adhesive.

I hope you enjoyed my card and video! Thank you so much for stopping by!
