Do you enjoy making and sending cards with hearts? To me, including a heart on a card is the simplest way to express that you are thinking of someone. So when I thought about making a few heart cards for the current Stay Crafty Challenge, I immediately knew that I'd use the beautiful, heart-filled background stamp from the All My Heart Peek-A-Boo Parts stamp set.
For my first card, I stamped the heart background onto a panel of Lavender cardstock with Thistle ink. When creating a monochromatic background, one of my favorite techniques is to restamp the image with Clear Embossing & Watermark ink and then apply Clear Embossing Powder. It’s an extra detail that adds wonderful texture and shine to the card. After trimming one corner of the panel with a corner rounder, I secured the panel, at an angle, to a Dove White Top Folded Card. After trimming the excess panel from the card edges, I rounded the card’s corners. Keeping the heart challenge in mind, I used a foam applicator to blend Taffy, Thistle, and Grape Slush inks onto a piece of Dove White cardstock. Then, I used one of the Nesting Heart Infinity Dies to cut a medium-sized heart that I secured to the card with foam tape.
Next, I stamped and embossed a small hello sentiment from the Hero Florals Tulips set onto a strip of Pitch Black cardstock. I rounded the upper corners and secured it to the card along the edge of the heart panel. Then, I stamped an adorable octopus and three small starfish from the Need a Hand set onto white cardstock with Intens-ified Black ink. After coloring the images with markers, I used the coordinating Need A Hand Frame Cuts to easily trim around each one. I cut two additional octopus shapes from white cardstock that I secured together with Precision Glue for extra dimension. After securing the images to the card with adhesive, I used the Surprise Gift set and coordinating die to add one final, tiny heart embellishment on the octopus. Now, when I need a card or a valentine, I’ll simply stamp an appropriate message on the inside.
While my supplies were out, I made a second, similar card. This time, I stamped the heart background onto a panel of Periwinkle cardstock with Splash ink. When I secured the panel to the card, I positioned it along the upper edge for a slightly different look. For more variety, I inked the die cut heart with Creamsicle and Lemon Drop inks.
The other changes that I made to my second card were that I added a sentiment to the die cut heart and I used a different image for my focal point. Since the blue heart background reminds me of water bubbles, I stamped and colored a deep sea diver from the Deeply in Love set and then used the Deeply in Love Frame Cuts to trim around the image. And, because the diver image is small, I had space to stamp a fun, hello sentiment from the Need A Hand set onto the heart with black ink.
