Creating Layered Floral Valentine Tags

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and I can’t think of a better occasion to make some floral gift tags. Traditional Valentine’s Day gifts, like flowers, candy and homemade treats, frequently aren’t gift wrapped so adding a special tag to the gift is sure to make it extra special. Today, I’m sharing a pair of tags that I made with some of my favorite Hero Arts products.

To make these tags, I started by stenciling monochromatic plaid backgrounds onto pieces of Peony and Passion Flower cardstock. To create the charming plaid pattern, I simply inked over the Stripe Stencil with a blending brush using Fruit Punch and Grape Slush Reactive inks. Then, after stenciling these stripes, I turned the stencil a quarter turn and inked over each panel a second time. Using a medium-sized Tag Infinity Die, I cut a tag shape from each inked panel. Before moving on, I also cut and glued an inked hole reinforcement to each tag.

I love the idea of adding lace doilies to valentines for vintage appeal. To create a similar look, I used the wreath die from the Winter Wishes Bundle to make a modern, Dove White doily layer for each tag. I love the results! After cutting the pieces, I secured them to each tag with Precision Glue.

To create the flowers at the center of each tag, I started by inking the four Color Layering Tulip Bouquet Stencils with Key Lime Fizz, Green Apple, Taffy, Fruit Punch, Thistle, and Grape Slush inks onto white cardstock. These stencils are incredibly useful for quickly adding color to images, especially when you are making multiple projects. After stenciling, I used the Tulip Bouquet Bundle to stamp the tulip outlines with Intens-ified Black ink and also to die cut the finished bouquet. I secured the bouquet onto the "doily" with foam tape.

And what’s a valentine without a heart? For the next layer, I cut an inked heart with the Nesting Hearts Infinity Dies and secured it to the tag with foam tape. For my message, I stamped a valentine sentiment from the Loving Sentiment Strips set onto Pitch Black cardstock with Clear Embossing & Watermark ink and then I embossed the sentiment with White Embossing Powder. Conveniently, I used the ribbon die from the Box of Chocolates Fancy Dies set to cut around my sentiment. Before gluing it to the heart, I cut two additional strips and glued them behind the message for extra dimension.

To finish each tag, I added a small flower that I cut with the Love and Florals Fancy Dies and a trio of Black Enamel Dots. I also cut plain tags from Peony and Passion Flower cardstock that I placed behind the decorated tags for adding personal messages. I secured the tags together easily with black cording that I tied into a bow at the top of the tag.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope that you are inspired to make some special tags for some special people this Valentine’s Day. Wishing you a wonderful and crafty weekend,
