Susan’s Tropical Getaway Collection – Card Inspiration with Annie Williams

Hi there, this is Annie Williams and I’m thrilled to be back on the blog today to share a couple of projects using the new Tropical Getaway Collection by Susan Tierney-Cockburn. The gorgeous exotic flowers in this collection inspired me to create two bright floral cards featuring realistic blooms for different occasions.

I loved the sprig of petite and pretty blooms in the Plumeria Die Set, so I decided to try these first. Although you can color these flowers in several bright colors, I opted for the white variety and added a pretty sunset background on this simple foiled anniversary card.

• Trim a piece of white cardstock to 4.75” x 4.75”.
• Blend pink, purple, and blue ink over the panel with a blending brush to look like a summer sunset.
• Apply Silver Hot Foil to white cardstock using the largest plate from the Essential Glimmer Classic Label Plate Set and the Glimmer Hot Foil Machine.
• Die cut the foiled shape out using the matching die from the Essential Classic Label Die Set.

• Die cut Susan’s Garden Specialty Cardstock with the flower, leaf, and stem dies from the Plumeria Die Set.
• Color the leaves green with Copic markers and shape them using the leaf tool from Susan’s Garden Ultimate Tool Kit.
• Color the stem brown with Copic markers.
• Add a bit of light orange to the very center of all of the flower petal die-cuts using a Copic marker, then flick with a medium yellow Copic marker out from the center to add some quick color to the flowers. Shape the petals using the loop tool and bend the edges downward with tweezers.
• Assemble the flowers with liquid glue and add a few orange prills to the center of each if desired.

• Apply Silver Hot Foil to white cardstock using one of the sentiments from Yana’s Special Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set. Cut it out with the coordinating die.
• Mat the ink-blended panel with Mirror Silver Cardstock and add it to a top-folding 5” square white card base with tape runner.
• Pop the foiled label panel up on the center of the card front with foam adhesive.
• Arrange the sprig of blooms on top of the card front and adhere down with liquid glue or hot glue.
• Add the sentiment to the top right corner with foam adhesive and embellish with Silver Mix Gems.

Heavyweight white cardstock, Rose, Lilac, Sky, and Odyssey Color Fuse Inks from Rubbernecker Stamps, blending brush, Copic markers, orange prills, tape runner, foam adhesive, hot glue gun

I have tried to grow coral-colored hibiscus flowers many times, but sadly they don’t last long in my house.  Fortunately, I’m a better flower-shaper than I am a grower, so I created the blooms of my dreams with the Hibiscus Die Set and added a few pretty tropical bunches to this cheerful friendship card.

• Die cut Susan’s Garden Specialty Cardstock with the flower, leaves, and stamen dies from the Hibiscus Die Set until you have enough pieces to form three blooms.
• Color the leaves green with Copic markers and shape them with the leaf tool.
• Color the stamens red with Copic markers, add Autumn Red Crystal Drops to the tips, and add Yellow Flower Pollen to the lower tips with liquid glue. Roll them once dry and adhere with liquid glue.
• Color the petals coral with Copic markers and shape them with the loop tool. Assemble the blooms with liquid glue.
• Cut, color, and shape three Plumeria flowers as done previously for the anniversary card.

• Die cut white and Mirror Gold Cardstock using the Large Oval Outer Rim and Pattern dies from the Elegant Twist Ovals Die Set. Adhere the white layer on top of the gold layer, allowing the gold layer to peek out a bit.
• Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using one of the sentiments from Yana’s Special Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set. Cut it out with the coordinating die.

• Trim a piece of kraft woodgrain cardstock to 4.75” x 6.75”. Mat it with Mirror Gold Cardstock and adhere it to a top-folding A7-sized white card base with tape runner.
• Add the oval layered die-cut to the center of the card with foam adhesive and pop the foiled sentiment up in the center.
• Arrange the flowers and leaves around the sentiment and adhere down with liquid glue or hot glue.
• Add Gold Mix Gems to embellish.
