Paul Antonio Holiday 2019 Inspiration | Colorful Cards with Ashlea

Hi there, crafters! My name is Ashlea from AshleaCrafts.com and I’m thrilled to be here on the Spellbinders blog sharing a few projects that I made with the Holiday 2019 collection of glimmer plates by Paul Antonio. If you haven’t tried the Glimmer Hot Foil System yet this is the perfect time. These plates are perfect for your holiday projects, and today I’ll show you 3 simple yet beautiful ways to create holiday cards using these plates as the star. Let’s take a look at the first card I created. The Peace On Earth glimmer plate is a beautifully scripted sentiment plate that takes up a good portion of my 3 3/4” by 5” card front, so it’s a wonderful opportunity to create a beautiful background spotlighting this plate.

This background was made with several blue shade Copic markers. I created a glowing moon effect by using these shades from light to dark in a circular pattern starting from the bottom of my card front and moving upward. I then created a snowfall look with white Gouache and used the Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil System with gold foil to press the plate into the card stock creating the focal point of my card.

My next project is a non traditional holiday card that I created using Tombow Dual Brush Pens. This faux watercolor wash creates the easiest and most beautiful washes with vibrant colors and seamless blends. There are color details and more tips on how to achieve this look in the video linked above. The glimmer plate I used for this card is my favorite, the Holiday Cheer plate. I love that the plate is large enough to be the focal point of the card but leaves room for a sub sentiment, like I added here just below.

Finally for today, I’ve got this card using the Calligraphy Alphabet Ornament glimmer plate. This plate has so much detail and speaks for itself creating a gorgeous ornament image with the calligraphy alphabet letters, that I decided to keep the card quite simple. I used a textured deep red card stock for my card front and gold foil to create enough contrast that the design would come through whether the light is hitting the foil or not. To add a bit more interest to such simple design, I added a stark white ribbon tied into a bow at the very top of the ornament.
