Hi, crafty friends! Lisa Tilson here, and I'm delighted to be with you today sharing a fun interactive birthday card featuring the new Spellbinders Card Spinners. If you've ever wanted to add movement to your handmade cards without complicated mechanisms, these spinners make it incredibly easy!
For today's project, I'm using the Large Card Spinner to create an adorable birthday monster that spins with just a flick of your finger. The Card Spinners are available in both Small and Large sizes, as well as a convenient assorted pack, giving you lots of options for future interactive projects.
Let's get started!
Die Cut the Monster
Begin by die cutting all of the pieces from the Dancing Birthday Monster Etched Dies.
For extra durability, die cut the body, arms, and legs twice. Since this character will be spinning and handled frequently, doubling these pieces helps create a sturdier finished die cut.
For the body, use:

For the arms and legs:

Run the dies through the Platinum SIX Die Cutting Machine using the following sandwich (bottom to top):

TIP: Keep your clean cutting plate on top whenever possible. This helps prevent marks from transferring onto your cardstock while die cutting.
Die Cut the Details
Next, die cut all of the remaining pieces:

Horns

Eyes

Teeth

Party Hat
Lisa stores all of the tiny die cuts in a Medium Craft Stax Tray, making assembly much easier.
Assemble the Monster
Begin by inserting the tiny white teeth through the body from the front to the back and secure them on the reverse side.
Adhere the duplicate body layer behind the first to reinforce the die cut.
Repeat this process for the arms and legs, creating sturdy double-layered pieces.
Next:

Adhere the legs behind the body.

Attach the arms at playful angles.

Add the tummy.

Assemble the layered eyes, using the alignment notches built into the dies for perfect placement.

Finish by adding the horns and party hat.
The layered construction creates a wonderfully sturdy character that's perfect for an interactive card.
Create the Birthday Accessories
To make the monster even more festive, create a small envelope using the Classic Mouse Love Etched Dies and a birthday present using the Classic Pooh Birthday Accessories Etched Dies.
Assemble both pieces with liquid glue before setting them aside.
Create the Striped Background
Die cut a stitched rectangle from Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock using one of the Nested Postage Labels & Tags Etched Dies.
For the colorful background, die cut stripes from:
Temporarily position the stitched rectangle onto an A2 panel of Seaside ColorWheel Cardstock and lightly mark where the first stripe will sit.
Adhere each stripe using liquid glue, working one color at a time until the panel is completely covered.
Trim away the excess cardstock with a paper trimmer.
The bright stripes create the perfect backdrop for the playful spinning monster.
Stamp the Sentiment
Temporarily place the assembled monster onto the stitched panel to determine the best sentiment placement.
Stamp a Happy Birthday greeting using black ink.
Add thin foam tape to the back of the stitched panel.
Add the Card Spinner
Now for the fun part!
Temporarily position the monster on the stitched panel to determine where the spinner should sit.
Adhere the Large Card Spinner to the panel using strong double-sided adhesive tape.
Before attaching the monster, glue the birthday gift and envelope to his hands.
Then add adhesive to the back of the monster and attach him directly onto the spinner.
Give him a spin—you'll instantly have a fun interactive card!
The Card Spinners create smooth, effortless movement while keeping the card nice and flat for mailing.
Assemble the Card
Create an A2 top-folding card base from Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock.
Adhere the striped background to the card base with liquid glue.
Remove the backing paper from the foam tape behind the stitched panel. Adding a small amount of liquid glue over the foam tape before placing it onto the background gives you a few extra seconds to perfectly position the panel.

Your interactive birthday card is complete!
