Video: Stretching Color Layering Stamps

Video: Stretching Color Layering Stamps

Who said color layering stamp sets only have to be used for color layering, for creating one multi-colored image? Yes, they work beautifully for that (and always produce stunning results), but can also be stretched in a way.

Today I am inviting you to try to use each color layering stamp individually. To be able to better explain what I have in mind I've filmed a video tutorial, I'm sharing it below.

Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful using For You Color Layering Stamp Set by Yana Smakula

I started by stamping Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful sentiment from the [hero_product_link sku="CL925" text="Dare To Dream set"] onto a white panel using [hero_product_link sku="AF101" text="Black ink"] and also added a Love You one from the [hero_product_link sku="CL944" text="For You Flowers Color Layering set"] using [hero_product_link sku="AF263" text="Ultra Pink ink"]. The sentiment needed to be stamped first to work as a guide for my card and tell me where my edge stamping needed to be.

Next I started working on my flowers, the floral image from the [hero_product_link sku="CL944" text="For You Flowers Color Layering set"] has 3 layers, I used each one on its own and stamped each using a different color of ink. The top layer (the 3rd layer) was stamped using [hero_product_link sku="AF263" text="Ultra Pink ink"], the medium (the 2nd layer) was stamped using [hero_product_link sku="AF242" text="Soft Cantaloupe"] and the bottom layer (the 1st layer), the solid one, was stamped using [hero_product_link sku="AF275" text="Soft Vanilla ink"].

I also added a few stamped leaves using Soft Leaf and Soft Green inks, I only used the 2nd layer, a detailed one, and stamped it first using one color of ink and than the other slightly offsetting. Lastly I added several small leaf images stamped in [hero_product_link sku="AF263" text="Ultra Pink ink"].

To make this project pop I heat embossed the sentiment over a stamped one (I made sure to offset the embossing so that there was a little black shadow) and also heat embossed the top layer of the flower 3 times using [hero_product_link sku="PW115" text="Brass embossing powder"].

Even though I used a color layering stamp set I was still able to stamp each layer independently of the other layers to create a beautiful floral design on my card. I encourage you to try this trick and remember to enter our Fabulous Flowers challenge for your chance to be featured on Hero Arts blog and win a gift certificate to Hero Arts store.

It’s the Little Things

It’s the Little Things

Birds are so pretty and one of the things that I like about them, is their vibrant colors which have always amazed me. Certainly, I can never have enough stamps of little birds, and coloring this type of image with markers can be a lot of fun. Today I am featuring a pretty set of woodblock stamps called [hero_product_link sku="LP409" text="A Little Birdie"]. This set includes five stamp images and two different sentiments.

The cards that I made this time are similar. I used the same stamps, but the colors and design of the cards were different. For the first card, I got my color inspiration from the Eastern Blue Bird. So, I created a background using different colors of Layering paper and inks. I used three different large background stamps: [hero_product_link sku="CG691" text="Garden Bold Prints"], [hero_product_link sku="CG689" text="Foliage Bold Prints"], and [hero_product_link sku="CG688" text="Pearl Strings Bold Prints"]. I began by stamping [hero_product_link sku="CG691" text="Garden Bold Prints"] onto a card base. Then, I stamped two different colors of card stock strips with [hero_product_link sku="CG689" text="Foliage Bold Prints"], and [hero_product_link sku="CG688" text="Pearl Strings Bold Prints"], and I adhered them onto the card base. I also white-embossed the sentiment over a strip of black card stock, and adhered it.

The focal point of my card is the bird image, which was simply stamped over [hero_product_link sku="PS610" text="Snow Layering paper"] with [hero_product_link sku="NK345" text="Intense Black Ink"], colored with markers, and then I die cut it into a circle. I adhered the circle with foam dots. At the end, I decided to use seam binding ribbon, stitches, gemstones and pearls as embellishments.

Card number two has a simpler design itself, and I chose a Yellow Warbler Bird as my inspiration. The background was stamped with [hero_product_link sku="CG689" text="Foliage Bold Prints"] and [hero_product_link sku="AF222" text="Soft Olive Shadow Ink"]. I stamped the little birdie over [hero_product_link sku="PS610" text="Snow Layering paper"] with [hero_product_link sku="AF214" text="Cup O'Joe Mid Tone Shadow Ink"], colored with markers, and trimmed into a rectangle. I matted the panel with a piece of Layering Paper, and then adhered the panel over the card. I white-embossed the sentiment over a strip of black card stock, and I put it below the birdie image with foam dots.

The final touches were sequins, gemstones and pearls.

Birds are fun, especially because of their pretty colors and using them as inspiration can be a great way to create your very own color combos and have a lot of fun stamping your cards or crafty projects.

Handwritten Thank You

Handwritten Thank You

Thank you cards, I don't think we can ever have too many in our stash. Have you seen the beautiful new [hero_product_link sku="G6132" text="Handwritten Thank You"]?

thank you blooms by Amy Tsuruta for Hero Arts

I stamped it with the new [hero_product_link sku="AF345" text="Intense Black ink"]. I've teamed it up with the [hero_product_link sku="CL944" text="Color Layering For You Flowers"]. I used the following Shadow Inks:

[hero_product_link sku="AF145" text="Soft Apricot"] ● [hero_product_link sku="AF242" text="Soft Cantaloupe"] ● [hero_product_link sku="AF260" text="Dark Quartz"]

[hero_product_link sku="AF262" text="Lime Green"] ● [hero_product_link sku="AF209" text="Green Hills"]

Do you see the random trio of dots? I used a gold metallic Sharpie pen! It's a fun postal friendly substitute for sequins. These days I can't seem to get enough of gold. I couldn't resist adding the skinny strip of gold glitter card stock.

This has gone postal to someone that is a constant multi-tasking queen. She is definitely one of those people you can't thank enough.
