Video: Spotlight Stenciling

Hello there cardmaking friends! Lisa Tilson here today to share a video where I am doing a technique which I call spotlight stenciling. I thought the Lots of Love Stencil would work well for this technique. I am throwing a little bit of dry embossing into the mix which helps to step up the card and give it lots of texture and interest. Both techniques are a great way to stretch your stencils, which are already such a versatile product to have in your stash!

I start off by die cutting a panel from Azalea cardstock using the Nesting Rectangle Infinity Dies. To create the beautiful embossed texture, I placed the card and stencil plus a couple of extra shims onto my Platinum 6 Die Cutting Machine platform. The sandwich will vary depending on your machine but I used the platform base, platform top and embossing pad followed by the cardstock and stencil. I added a few paper shims on top and then the adaptor plate.

After running the sandwich through the machine I carefully removed the stencil and cardstock and taped them together so that I could do my ink blending.

Using a Large Blending Brush, I applied Azalea Core Ink from the outside of the panel towards the center, making sure to leave an area in the middle free of ink. I repeated the process using Raspberry Jam Core Ink and then Intens-ified Black Ink but each time I changed ink, I didn't blend the color as far into the middle. This gives a lovely gradient and as you are blending onto a dry embossed panel the raised areas catch the ink beautifully.

Taking the Love & Hearts Fancy Dies, I cut the outline hearts die twice from Deluxe Smooth White Cardstock and twice from Azalea Cardstock. The two white pieces were adhered together with wet adhesive and I then ink blended Raspberry Jam Core Ink onto the six pink hearts so they would be a lovely dark pink..

Now for a bit of die cut inlay! I adhered the white hearts outline piece onto my panel and then glued the hearts into place.

For the sentiment, I used the Loving Sentiment Strips and heat embossed them onto Pitch Black Cardstock using White Detail Embossing Powder. The sentiment was cut out using the Sentiment Strips Fancy Die and then trimmed and added with foam tape.

To finish the card, I foam mounted the completed panel onto a top folding A2 white note card created from Deluxe Smooth White Cardstock. I hope that this gives you some inspiration for your stencils and that you give these simple techniques a try! Thank you for your company here on the blog today!
