VIDEO: Layering Inks with Layering Stencils

Hey crafty friends! Mindy Eggen with you today! If you’re looking to stretch your ink collection and add more depth to your projects, layering inks might just be your new favorite technique! Today, I’m sharing how to create custom shades by layering inks using Hero Arts layering stencils . This simple but powerful method allows you to unlock fresh, vibrant color combinations—without needing to invest in more supplies.

In today’s video, I’ll walk you through all the steps to achieve these beautiful layered ink results—from selecting your ink colors and aligning your stencils, to blending techniques that bring depth and dimension to your design.

You can watch the video down below or HERE on the Hero Arts Youtube channel.

Today I’m combining the previously released Color Layering Beach Floor stencil with some of the newest products like Die Set of the Month and Card Kit of the Month from June 2025 to show how effortlessly older supplies can work with fresh releases. It’s a great way to stretch your stash and create something that feels brand new by mixing and matching your favorites!

For this coastal-inspired card, I blended Deep Ocean , Bermuda , and Paradise inks with blending brushes to create a rich and vibrant ocean scene. These shades work beautifully together, offering depth and movement in the water. For the sandy shoreline, I used Fawn and Caramel to achieve a warm, natural beach tone that perfectly complements the cool ocean colors. The blend of these hues really brings the scene to life all on White cardstock .

Once your stenciled panel is complete, die cut it using a nesting rectangle die . This not only gives you clean, crisp edges but also adds a polished, professional look to your finished card.

To pull the whole scene together, I used the Polaroid die from the Die Set of the Month , which perfectly frames the beachy vignette and adds a playful, nostalgic touch backed with vellum. For the finishing sentiment, I reached for a greeting from the Card Kit of the Month stamped in Intensified Black Ink , tying everything together with a heartfelt message that fits the tranquil coastal theme. It's a fun and easy way to mix and match club products for a cohesive card design!

If you’ve never tried layering inks before, now is the perfect time to jump in! It’s a simple technique that can unlock an entirely new range of custom colors and bring your stenciled designs to life with added depth and dimension. Be sure to watch the full video where I walk you through each step—sharing tips, ink combos, and how I pulled the entire card together. Give it a try and see how fun and easy it is to create something uniquely yours!
