Video: Happy National Ice Cream Month!

Hello, Jess here with a yummy sweet card to celebrate National Ice Cream month! I’m featuring the Color Layering Ice Cream set along with the Marble Bold Prints background stamp!

I Melt For You by Jessica Frost-Ballas for Hero Arts Watch the video tutorial below to see how I created my card!

If you have problems viewing the video please try watching it on YouTube.

To start, I inked the solid cone shape from Color Layering Ice Cream with Tea Dye Distress Ink, spritzed it with water, and stamped it on a piece of watercolor paper. Then I inked the second cone layer with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and stamped it onto the watercolor paper without spritzing. The first layer was still a little damp which allowed the top layer to bleed slightly for a more artsy watercolor look but it kept the definition of the layer. Next I inked the solid ice cream shape with Shabby Shutters Distress Ink, spritzed it with water, and stamped it on the watercolor paper. I removed the stamp and immediately took a waterbrush and spread a line of water while the ink was still wet so that the distress ink would begin to spread along the line.

Then, while the ink was still damp, I inked the second ice cream layer with Peeled Paint Distress Ink and stamped it over the solid image without spritzing. Then I smooshed Shabby Shutters and Peeled Paint Distress Ink onto my craft mat and used a waterbrush to create a melted puddle of ice cream at the base of the ice cream cone. Next I stamped the sentiment with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and took a tiny damp paintbrush and smeared the bottom of the sentiment with water to create the effect of melting. Finally to complete my ice cream cone I selectively inked just three chips with Cup O’ Joe ink and stamped those on the melted puddle. Then I inked up the entire stamp with Cup O’ Joe ink and stamped it over the ice cream scoop.

I Melt For You by Jessica Frost-Ballas for Hero Arts I inked up the Marble Bold Prints background stamp all over with Shabby Shutters and Peeled Paint Distress Ink. After inking I spritzed it with water and pressed a piece of watercolor paper over it. I gently rubbed my fingers over the back of the watercolor paper to get a good impression and then lifted the paper. While that was drying I smeared Cup O’ Joe ink direct to paper on a scrap of cardstock to use as a divider between the ice cream panel and the background panel. I trimmed down the brown strip and the ice cream panel and adhered the brown strip behind the ice cream panel. Then I added foam mounting tape to the back of my ice cream panel and adhered it to the background panel.

I Melt For You by Jessica Frost-Ballas for Hero Arts You could use different colors of ink to create cherry chocolate chip, cookies and cream, or lemon sorbet…there are endless ways to customize your crafty ice cream! I hope my card inspires you to create some sweet themed cards of your own! Thanks so much for visiting and have a fantastic day! I hope you’ll get to enjoy an ice cream treat soon, too! ;)
