From the Mind of Milagros: Blessings

Today we welcome our creative friend Milagros Rivera back to the blog. Milagros owns a store in Puerto Rico called The Paper Boutique Scrapbooking Studio. While Milagros did lose power temporarily as Hurricane Fiona hit, thankfully she is not in the areas greatly impacted by the storm. But our hearts are with Milagros, and all of the people on the island, as they work to recover once again from disaster.

If you are wondering how you can help the recovery efforts, here are some organizations we recommend:

PRxPR Disaster Relief Fund - providing food, clean water and renewable energy to some of the most devastated communities in Puerto Rico.
Wings of Rescue - mobilizing to send in humanitarian and pet aid to Puerto Rico, and then bring shelter animals back to the States.

Now let's take a look at what creativity Milagros has for us this month...

Here’s a home decor project to welcome your guests this fall.

First, gather your supplies:

I was inspired by the Pantone fall colors for 2022 that have nothing to do with actual pumpkin colors!!! I started by die cutting several times the general pumpkin outline. Then I used the String Dots stamp to create a watermark on the watercolor paper die cut with Clear embossing powder.

I used the second part of the stencil set to help me know where each pumpkin ended since I will be using several colors. If you’re only using say orange, you can skip this part

To create the Spicy Mustard in the Pantone chart I combined Dandelion with Coffee. What a surprise it was seeing it transform into a perfect color for my next sunflowers painting!

Now see the magic of the embossing resist giving you a cool texture on your paint!

For my next color I mixed Pink with ArtPrint Brown.

My last mix was Moss and Coffee. This entire project is a good reminder that you are not limited to only the colors that come in the bottle - mix up new shades of color to fit the project you are creating!

Save your mixes for the second part of the stencil where you will create the ridges and shadows. Stems and greenery were done in straight Moss and Coffee paints.

Even though I started on a die cut, I hand trimmed my painted image in order to use another piece die cut from the gold cardstock as a shadow behind it. That included doing some xacto knife work in between the stems.

Using Coffee watercolor on a distress sponge through the stencil will help you create a wood burn look on the wooden plaque. This Tile Pattern stencil in particular is pretty awesome to match where it won’t reach the first time around. Just don’t wet your sponge too much because it will bleed on the wood. It’s what happened to me right at the end. I don’t mind because it gives me a shadow effect for the pumpkin.

Finish with your chosen stamp. In this case I only inked the word "blessings".

I hope you will try a home decor piece with your products!

Thank you for joining us today,
