Dia de los Muertos - Postal Service Style

Hi friends! Lydia here today with a little US Postal Service love. I am an absolute fiend for the USPS catalogs with stamps in them. As a result, I have enough postage to last me for the rest of my life, but I cannot resist new designs! Some past designs linger in my mind, and one such design is the inspiration for today's card featuring the September Card Kit of the Month.

The postage stamps that inspired me were released in 2022, and I love them so much. You can see them here.

I loved the modern, abstract backgrounds for the mariachi, and when I got this month's kit with the little Dia de los Muertos mariachi it was the first thing I thought of, so I got to work.

First - I cut three stamps with one of the dies from the Postage Infinity Dies set. Then I used Post-It Tape to mask the edges of these die cuts. I used another piece of tape to create a horizon. I used Tangerine, Ultra Pink and Purple Galaxy inks for the scenes. I used Circle Infinity Dies to cut a positive and negative moon from masking paper.

In the "ground" portion - to mimic the abstract shapes on the postage stamps, I used one of the layers of the September Layering Stencils of the Month selectively in a contrasting ink. It's fun to selectively use portions of a stencil.

And, in case you didn't notice - I did stamp surgery to separate the images so that they fit on my stamp.

Finally - I cut a Pitch Black panel to glue them onto so that they looked like a sheet of stamps.

I'm tickled at how this month's products so perfectly matched some of my favorite postage stamps - I hope you are too.

Thanks for stopping by!
