Watercolored Peonies

Watercolored Peonies

Hello crafty friends! It's Mindy with you today to share inspiration using the new Peonies Bunch stamp set. I decided I hadn't done much watercoloring lately and thought this beautiful floral image was the perfect time to dig out my Karin markers. You can do this same technique with any watercolor set you have.

I started by stamping the peony image onto Fabriano Artistico Extra White paper using Unicorn pigment ink. Then I added White embossing powder and heat set. I like heat embossing my images first because it creates a barrier for me and the watercolors.

I laid down some color on a slick surface with my Karin markers. I'm using 375 Cerise, 283 Gold, and 621 Sky Blue. After taping my panel to a hard board, I wet my background and then picked up the colors with my paint brush and did a light wash on my card front. I let the water do the work and spread the color out.

Once the background was dry, I came in with some darker colors. I'm using 359 Magenta, 654 Turquoise and 045 Royal Blue. I picked up the colors with my paintbrush, lightly added some to areas of the image, cleaned my brush and spread out that color I just laid down.

Once everything was completely dry, I cut out the panel with one of the Nesting Rectangle Infinity Dies. I trimmed out a few more panels of cardstock measuring the same size and layered together to not only create dimension but also to flatten out the panel. This was then added to a Dove White side folded card base.

My sentiment comes from the Message Strips Stamp & Cut XL set. I stamped in Unicorn pigment ink, heat embossed in white and trimmed out with the coordinating die. Then added to the front with black foam squares.

It's been so long since I watercolored but it was so refreshing. It's nice to just get lost in the process sometimes.

Hope you enjoyed today's inspiration. Thanks for stopping by!
