Video: Mixing Iridescent Embossing Powders on Dark Cardstock

Hi friends! I'm here today with a video on one of my absolute favorite things to do - mix embossing powders on solid images. I learned this technique from Fred Mullet in the late 1900s and it's remained my very favorite way to use embossing powders.

BUT - it's kicked up to a whole new level with the new Hero Arts iridescent embossing powders because you get translucency and amazing shimmer. These powders just glow, as you will see. And be sure and watch the video at the end because that glowy, shimmery look is hard to see in the still photos.

This first card uses the beautiful Color Layering Seasonal Tree Bundle . This tree has three layers but in the first card, I'm just using two of the layers. First, I prepped some Pitch Black  cardstock with my powder tool. Then I stamped the trunk of the tree three times using my MISTI and Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink . Stamping it multiple times ensures even coverage on solid images when embossing.

Then I applied Iridescent Copper Embossing Powder to it and heat set it. When you use this powder, first shake the container well to mix the shimmer and the embossing powder. Then, when you add it to your wet ink - don't worry if the shimmer coats your cardstock outside the inked image - that's normal. Just heat the image as you normally would. When it's cool, wipe off the excess shimmer with a soft cloth. 

Next, use your powder tool again and then stamp the second layer - the full foliage - on top of the trunk three times with Clear Embossing Ink . Apply the Purple Iridescent Embossing Powder and heat, cool and wipe off as before. 

The result is this stunning, shimmery tree glowing in complementary colors of embossing powder. The sentiment and die are from the same stamp set .

For the second card, I used all three layers of the tree, but I did the first two in Detail Black Embossing Powder  and then mixed the two iridescent powders on the third layer with a fun trick you'll see in the video. You really need to see this second one shine in the video - so fun.
