Video: Subtle Approach to Mixed Media with Mindy

Welcome friends! This is Mindy and today I'm sharing a subtle approach to mixed media. I want to create a stenciled background without it overpowering my images and I'm going to show you how.

I will be starting my projects by stamping out three images from the Monarch & Milkweed  stamp set in Intensified Black  ink. I'm stamping on Deluxe Smooth White  cardstock and coloring with my OLO Alcohol Markers.

After my images are colored in, I am going to use the coordinating die to cut them out.

For the background, I'm using a piece of Deluxe Smooth White  cardstock cut to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" and ink blending on Periwinkle  ink using a  blending brush .

Now this isn't the normal ink blending you might see from me. This is going to be very scattered and also messy looking at times. I go over most of the cardstock with the blending brush but will darken random areas with the same Periwinkle ink. I'm darkening it by just applying a heavier hand while ink blending.

Next, I'm going to splatter the background with Gold Glimmer Metallic Ink and Frost Shimmer Spray . Then dry it with a heat tool.

Then I'm going to bring in the Script Stencil which may be my new favorite stencil. I place this over my blended background and apply White Pearl Hero Paste using my palette knife . This is going to be another imperfect background where I'm not smoothing out the edges. I'm going to leave the edges again kind of scattered. 

My sentiment comes from the Monarch & Milkweed  stamp set as well. I stamped it in Unicorn Pigment Ink onto Pitch Black  cardstock and heat embossed White Detail Embossing Powder . Then used the coordinating die to cut it out.

To add a little stability to my images and sentiment, I die cut each piece out one more time and layered together with Precision Glue .

I finished off the card front by adding my images and sentiment with thin foam squares.

I absolutely love how this turned out. It has a mixed media feel but very subtle and super easy.
