Partial Stamping to Create Mixed Media Style Backgrounds

Hey everybody! It's Maria here today with an easy way to add texture and patterns to your card backgrounds for a fun mixed-media style look.

To create this card I started by watercoloring a a piece of watercolor cardstock with my liquid watercolor sprays (DIY sprays are easily made by adding a few drops of watercolor to water in a spray bottle). After my first layer of color dried I added more color by spraying my watercolors onto my work surface and then smooshing my background into the color (ink smooshing). This added some fun texture to the background. I used Leaf, Jungle Mist and Indigo liquid watercolors.

Next, I splattered my background with white and gold glimmer metallic inks and then smeared on gold glimmer metallic ink using my fingers. To add some really fun and unpredictable texture I took the Swirl Bold Prints stamp and folded it like a taco. I used this to do some "taco stamping" on my background using Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink. I stamped randomly all over the background, covered the ink with Brass Embossing Powder and then heat set it. I used a white Posca pen and a black pencil to add some extra detail to the background before mounting it onto a black card base.

To finish my card off I added a die cut sentiment from the Hello There Stamp & Cut set and topped that off with some black enamel dots.

And just like that, this card was done! I hope you'll find a little time to get crafty and maybe even a little messy this weekend. If you're new to mixed media I encourage you to forget about the end result, have fun, and just play!

A quick reminder – our Season of Gratitude sale is running now through Monday, November 29. Check out all of the details below!

Crafty hugs and wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
