Hi crafty friends! It’s Charlene from Dream Craft Create, and today I’m sharing a set of four cards that all start with the new Suspenders Die Set from the Friends with Flair colleciton.
This is one of those “stretch your stash” projects where a single die set can take you way beyond the intended design. The long suspender pieces are perfect for quick focal points, but they also make instant backgrounds, a woven panel, and even shirt stripes when you flip the orientation!

To get started, I used the Suspenders Dies to cut several sets of strips from the following colors of cardstock:
I used these fun rainbow strips throughout my four cards.
Card 1: Classic Suspenders
For the first card, I used the Suspenders Dies the traditional way to create a clean shirt front with rainbow suspenders. I glued Poppy, Beeswax, Rainforest, and Teal Topaz strips edge-to-edge onto two white base straps.
To add a fun interactive look, I added foam tape behind each suspender strap so that they sit raised off the shirt front. I used my scoreboard to keep both straps straight and evenly placed (about 1/4" in from each side). Then I popped up the collar with foam tape, tucked in the bow tie, and finished with matte gold hardware pieces.
For the greeting, I stamped “You’re One of a Kind” from the Totally Awesome stamps directly onto the card panel. The bold and playful sentiments in this set are perfect for making a statement on your cards.
I love how bright and happy this card turned out!
Card 2: Rainbow Striped Background
This one is all about layering. I started by creating a bright vertical rainbow striped panel. To make things easy, I added a double-sided adhesive sheet to an A2 panel of white cardstock. Then I adhered strips of Poppy, Carrot, Beeswax, Rainforest, Teal Topaz, and Lilac cardstock in rainbow order across the entire panel.
For a fun focal point, I created a jean jacket using the Jean Jacket Die Set. I cut the jacket from Cascade cardstock. I used matte gold metallic cardstock for the buttons and Tutu and Dahlia cardstock for the heart patch. If you want to add even more detail to your jacket, there is a coordinating Jean Jacket Layering Stencil Set available.
Next, I layered the Jean Jacket die cut on top of the rainbow background. The mix of clean stripes and the larger jacket shape give the card a strong focal point. A bold sentiment from the Totally Awesome stamps over the jacket keeps everything graphic and modern.
Card 3: Rainbow Woven Strips Background
If you love texture, this card is the one. I created a woven background by adhering a set of vertical strips first, then weaving horizontal strips over and under to form a tight basket weave.
My favorite tip here is to work in small sections and keep your spacing consistent. It’s one of those techniques that looks complicated, but it’s really just repetition.
While the rainbow palette brings a bright, playful feel, you can easily switch things up by using soft pastels for a sweet spring look or warm autumn hues for cozy fall-inspired creations.
I added a large sentiment over the weave so the background still shines, but the greeting stays easy to read. A few small flair pieces created using the Got Flair Die Set finish it off and help guide the eye across the design.
Card 4: Horizontal Striped Shirt
For the fourth card, I used the wide strap pieces in a totally different way and built horizontal stripes across a Breeze cardstock panel. I cut four of the wide strap pieces, then added rainbow strips to them (this time using Beeswax, Rainforest, Teal Topaz, and Lilac) and adhered them across the card front. This simple technique opens the door to endless color combinations and unique shirt-inspired designs!
TIP: A scoreboard makes this so much easier. I started a 1/2" up from the bottom, then spaced each stripe evenly before trimming off the excess at the sides.
To make the design read instantly as a shirt front, I added a collar with foam squares behind it for dimension. I finished with the stamped and die cut sentiment “You Are My Fave” on the right side, like a little shirt patch detail. So fun!
