Hello, crafty friends! This is Emily Leiphart and I’m thrilled to be back on the Spellbinders blog, featuring the Let It Snow Collection by Simon Hurley. As soon as I saw those adorable penguins and pretty snowflakes, I couldn’t wait to create with these products.
I went back to a favorite color palette of mine for these cards and I based it around the penguins but I also really love the contrast of the colors on the other two cards showcasing all the snowflakes.
Can you guess which card I made first? Of course, it was the penguin card! I wouldn’t wait to dress up those penguins and I actually ended up making a bunch of penguins with winter clothing of all the different colors in this palette. It was so much fun but more on that later.
Let’s talk about this rich card which features the Layering Snowflakes Dies. This is a set of three snowflakes in different sizes and you can use them on their own, as I have here, or layered. There are also shadows for them which I didn’t use but these dies are so versatile and you can get so many different looks with them. I cut my card base from eggplant cardstock and cut each size of snowflake from white glitter, cupcake, salt water taffy, and cookie monster cardstock.
As soon as I was happy with my arrangement on the card base, I glued only the centers down and trimmed the overhanging sections. The snowflakes looked a little too flat so I glued a second layer on top and slightly offset them so they look a little blurry. Finally, I cut the Noel sentiment from Handwritten Holiday Sentiments. I used silver glitter and cookie monster cardstock for the letters, and eggplant for the shadow.
Now on to these cuties from Playful Penguins! I just love their different body positions and accessories. You can use them on their own, in pairs or all three, which I absolutely had to feature here. I used their traditional black and white for the bodies and dressed them up in Cookie Monster, plum punch, and sat water taffy.
Their feet match their accessories and I used Glitter Purple Foam Sheets for the Rudolph nose on the middle penguin. Their cheeks were cut from cupcake cardstock, and the gift and wreath were cut from eggplant and silver glitter cardstock. For the background, I used the Sparkling Snowflakes 3D Embossing Folder two-thirds of the way down and finished with a sentiment from Handwritten Holiday Sentiments.
My third card features the incredibly intricate Frozen Flurries cutting plate, which I created with a gel printing plate, a small brayer, and dye inks. After I created the background, I ran it through my Platinum Six and saved the negative snowflakes for another card which you’ll see on my blog.
Since I wanted to show off the gorgeous background and Frozen Flurries cutting plate, I kept my design simple and added a repeating sentiment from Handwritten Holiday Sentiments cut from eggplant cardstock and backed with vellum. To finish, I added a few silver pearl accents.
