Hello, crafty friends, Marie here from Marie Nicole Designs. I’m so excited to be back on the blog to share with you a few shaker cards created with the Get Well Soon sentiment from the Essentially Yours Sentiments collection.
These are a group of frequently used sentiments that can be easily added to any card. I’m using the Get Well sentiment today, but there are also sentiments that say “thank you”, “thinking of you”, “happy birthday”, and more common sentiments. These sentiments also include the shadow cut-out die along with it, you can add a backing to the words or, like we are doing today, get a little creative and make a shaker element to your sentiment!
Let’s get started!
Cut out a piece of cardstock for the front of your card. I am using the Deckled Edge Script Edge Dies from the Beautifully Imperfect collection, but you don't need to use this! You can just cut a card-sized panel or use any other layer die you might have.
Tape off a section of your background that you would like to ink blend.
I am creating a color-block style background, so I taped off the bottom corner at an angle, and I’m using a beautiful blue for this first layer.
Add a second color by taping off another section and ink blending.
I moved the first piece of tape up to cover the top edge of the first color-block area we blended. This way, I can ink-blend the second area without getting ink onto my first color, and I can have both colors meet on a crisp, straight line.
Use the outline die for the sentiment to cut out a window in your background panel.
Since we are making this into a shaker sentiment, we will cut a window for the shaker element. I like to use a small piece of tape to hold the die in place while I run it through my die-cutting machine.
Flip over your card panel and add a piece of clear acetate or plastic to the backside of the window.
I like to use liquid adhesive around the edges of the window opening, so that all edges of the window are securely glued into place.
Add a strip of foam adhesive all around the shaker window. You need a little height to allow room for the shaker bits you choose, and you need to make sure there are no gaps in your foam adhesive. We don't want any shaker pieces falling out!
Seal in the shaker pieces with a piece of cardstock. I just used a scrap paper that was left over to adhere to the foam adhesive.
Add more foam adhesive to the back of the card and adhere to your card base.
Since you already have some height with the shaker window, you need to support the rest of your card panel with more adhesive.
Cut out the words of the sentiment that coordinates with the outline shape you used. We used the Get Well Soon for this card.
I cut my sentiment words out of gold cardstock, and then added drops of liquid adhesive to the backside and adhered it to the window.
Embellish the front of your card with some finishing touches like a flower, or a cute animal, or anything that you think your recipient would like.
I am using a single poppy from the Poppy Song collection.
There really are so many fun ways to use these sentiments. Get creative! See what you can come up with!
