Go ahead and cut out the pieces from the Autumn Kokeshi Dolls set using white cardstock.

Most of the pieces can be ink blended later, but for the hair pieces, cutting them from black cardstock provides a cleaner and more consistent black finish than ink blending.
Designer Tip: If you want a crisp, solid black color, die-cutting hair elements from black cardstock often gives better results than attempting to blend black ink onto white cardstock.

Begin adding color to the individual doll pieces using ink blending.
For the face, use Tattered Rose Distress Oxide Ink to create a soft skin tone.

For the kimono, blend Saltwater Taffy and Aged Mahogany Distress Oxide Inks to create a warm pink-to-red transition.

Add Festive Berries Distress Oxide Ink to the belt and trim pieces for additional contrast and detail.

Once all of the die-cut elements have been colored, it's time to assemble the doll.
Lay out the pieces before adhering them together to ensure proper placement. The layered design makes assembly straightforward, and the individual die-cut components build quickly into a completed doll.

Create a second Kokeshi doll using warm orange, yellow, and red tones for her kimono.
Use the coordinating stamps included in the set to add decorative patterns to the robe before assembling the belt and trim pieces.

Designer Tip: Stamp the kimono pattern before attaching any layered embellishments so the stamped design remains complete and uninterrupted.

Experiment with different hairstyles and accessories to give each doll her own unique personality.

To coordinate with the dolls, create a warm autumn background using many of the same Distress Oxide colors.
Start with Saltwater Taffy and blend softly across the background panel.

Next, add Festive Berries to deepen the color.

Finish with Ripe Persimmon and Spiced Marmalade.

Blend repeatedly across all the colors until the transitions become smooth and seamless.

Use the Nested Arch Dies to cut a large arched window from the center of the blended background panel.
Save both the outer frame and inner window piece because both elements will be used later in the design.

Place both arch pieces inside the Shoji Screen Embossing Folder before embossing.
Keeping the pieces together during embossing ensures that the pattern aligns perfectly once the card is assembled.

Begin layering the card by adding red cardstock behind the arched frame opening.

Create a second red backing layer behind the center arch piece.

Position the embossed window elements over the red layers to create contrast and depth.
The added dimension helps draw attention to the focal dolls while creating the appearance of an architectural frame.

Use gold watercolor paint to highlight the embossed leaves throughout the background.

Adding gold to the raised embossed areas enhances the autumn theme and provides beautiful shimmer when the card catches the light.

Complete the design by attaching the Kokeshi dolls with foam adhesive.
Die-cut a sentiment from the Autumn in Kyoto Press & Foil Plates using gold cardstock and adhere it beneath the dolls.

The dimensional layers, rich autumn colors, embossed background, and metallic accents come together to create a warm and elegant finished card.
Warm reds, oranges, pinks, and golden yellows help create a rich seasonal palette that complements autumn-inspired projects.
Embossing both pieces at the same time ensures that the embossed design aligns perfectly when the card is assembled.
Absolutely. Changing the colors, patterns, and accessories allows these dolls to work beautifully throughout the year.
Gold watercolor paint applied directly to raised embossed areas creates beautiful metallic highlights with minimal effort.
The Autumn Kokeshi Dolls are perfect for creating elegant seasonal cards full of warmth and personality. By combining layered die cuts, rich ink blending, embossed details, and touches of gold, you can capture the beauty of autumn while creating a unique handmade card that is sure to be treasured.
Whether you make one doll or a whole group, these charming designs provide endless opportunities for creativity throughout the year.
