Hello everyone! Galina Filippenko is here (@galachko on Instagram), and I’m so happy to be guesting on Spellbinders blog. I have a few cards to share with you that I created using the absolutely stunning Regal Reflections Collection. I’ve had so much fun playing with these products. If you love texture backgrounds, layering elements, and elegant details (with a little whimsy thrown in), you’re going to love these cards!
For my first card, I decided to mix three new products: the Regal Blooms Die Set, the Regal Pair Die Set, and the Regal Lattice Embossing Folder. I always enjoy combining dies and embossing folders because the texture instantly adds interest to the card background.
I started by embossing a pink cardstock using the Regal Lattice embossing folder. Once the design was embossed, I gently rubbed white pigment ink over the raised areas. This simple step really highlights the texture and makes all those beautiful details stand out. It’s one of my favorite ways to add a soft, elegant look without a lot of effort.
Next, I die-cut the flowers and the vase from turquoise cardstock. I truly enjoy working with Spellbinders cardstock — it comes in such gorgeous shades, and each color includes light, medium, and dark tones. That makes it so easy to create realistic and dimensional die-cut flowers. You can mix and match the shades or even layer them for extra depth.
Now for the star of the show… the adorable dog! I used light peach cardstock and one of the mirrored dog’s dies from the Regal Pair Die Set. Fun tip: I swapped the tail from the opposite dog die to give my pup a slightly different look. I love it when small tweaks make something feel extra special.
To assemble the card, I foam-mounted all the elements onto the embossed background. I finished it with a sentiment from the Lasting Impression Sentiments, I heat embossed it with white embossing powder on black cardstock. The crisp white sentiment really pops against the dark background and ties everything together beautifully.
For my second card, I reached for the Regal Lattice Embossing Folder again, but this time I used the floral pattern. I used it with the watercolor paper, to be able to color it.
I colored the raised flowers using watercolor paints, keeping the colors soft and elegant. The real fun, though, was the background! I applied a light brown watercolor paint over the entire background parts — including the vertical and horizontal detail lines in the design.
Once the panel was completely dry, I went back and highlighted those vertical and horizontal lines with my favorite gold marker: Uchida DecoColor Premium Gold Metallic Marker. This is the same marker I usually use for coloring wax seals, and it adds very beautiful metallic shine. That subtle gold detail really elevates the entire card and makes it feel extra special.
To finish this card, I heat embossed a sentiment from the Lasting Impression Sentiments directly onto the colored panel using gold embossing powder. I love how the gold sentiment coordinates perfectly with the gold details in the background.
For my third card, I wanted to try something a little bit different, so I created an arch-shaped card. I used the two largest dies from the Arch Punch Die Set to cut a light blue frame. I foam-mounted this frame onto light brown cardstock to give the card some dimension.
Then came the decorating — my favorite part! I added flowers and stems from the Regal Blooms Die Set, I cut the flowers from both regular white cardstock and white glitter cardstock. Mixing plain and glitter cardstock is such an easy way to add sparkles without overwhelming the design.
I played around with the placement, mixing and matching the flowers and adding a few extra leaves to the stems. The goal was to create a beautiful floral cluster flowing from the top of the arch all the way down to the bottom. I really love how elegant and balanced it turned out.
To finish the card, I stamped a sentiment using the VersaMark Black Onyx Ink. It’s simple, clean, and lets the florals shine.
