Party Time Piñata

Party Time Piñata

I'm always in need of more birthday cards and I love to send fun, interactive cards to family and friends. So today I have created a colourful birthday shaker card featuring the sweet Piñata stamp.

Party Time Pinata by Lucy Abrams for Hero ArtsTo make my card, I first stamped the Piñata on some watercolor paper, then painted it in rainbow watercolors. Once dry, I hand cut it out, and "hung" it on a white tag stamped with sentiments from the Party Time by Lia set.

Party Time Pinata 3 by Lucy Abrams for Hero ArtsTo create the background, I first stamped the Confetti Bold Prints Background in Summer Sky Ink on Sea paper, then stitched a sheet of acetate on top, leaving a gap. I filled the shaker pocket with sequins and beads, then stitched up the opening. I adhered the panel to a Snow Folded Card, then added the tag on top.

So Happy For You

So Happy For You

Hello! There are so many great ways to create dimension on your cards and today I'm excited to show off the fabulous new [hero_product_link sku="DI159" text="Paper Layering Mum Flower Die"] that brings dimension to a whole new level!

So Happy For You by Kelly Rasmussen for Hero Arts

To create the card, I die cut the Paper Layering Mum from a circle piece of watercolor paper just slightly larger than my flower. Next, I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers to create a gradient of color from the center of the circle outwards. I simply scribbled directly on the paper with the markers and then used a water brush to blend the colors together. I loved how the color seeped into the creases of the die cut petals to add a bit of darker color around the edges.

Once it was completely dry, I used a Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush and a white colored pencil to add a bit of detail to each petal. It doesn't show up the best in the photo, but in real life it makes the petals pop!

Next, I adhered the flower to a square card base, making sure not to put any glue behind the petals that I wanted to pop up. Then I cut tiny pieces of foam adhesive and tucked them behind the outer two layers of petals. You can also just curl the petals out with a stylus, but I'm sending this card though the mail and I wanted to make sure the petals stayed fluffy.

So Happy For You by Kelly Rasmussen for Hero ArtsI finished the card off with a message from the must-have [hero_product_link sku="CL954" text="Many Everyday Messages set"] and a bit of gold thread behind the message banner.

Thank for stopping by today!

Birthday Cake Layering

Birthday Cake Layering

A birthday is the perfect opportunity to break out the confetti and surprise someone with a vibrant celebration card. But, what's a celebration without a colorful cake and some candles? I used the new [hero_product_link sku="CL950" text="Birthday Cake Layering set"] to create a pair of bright birthday cards.

Birthday Cake Layering by Jayne Nelson for Hero Arts

I started by stamping cake pedestals, cake layers with assorted decorations, and star-shaped cake picks on [hero_product_link sku="PS610" text="white layering paper"] with [hero_product_link sku="AF345" text="Intense Black ink"]. Since this ink doesn't bleed, it was easy to color each image with a few shades of some alcohol-based markers. Then, I used the matching [hero_product_link sku="DI169" text="Birthday Cake Layering Frame Cuts"] to die cut each shape. After stamping a pair of sentiments from the same set onto some [hero_product_link sku="PS627" text="kraft layering paper"], I assembled the cake by adhering the pieces with foam adhesive, gently tipping each of the top layers for a playful design.

To create a colorful background for this birthday card, I covered the card base with four colors of Hero Arts layering paper. I selected bright colors to closely match the colors of the cake. It's such an easy and quick way to add bold color to a design. Just for fun, I glued a few gems and some confetti, that I made with my paper punch and paper scraps, randomly around the cake.

For my second card, I covered the card base with four strips of [hero_product_link sku="PS621" text="layering paper"] rather than four blocks of color. The look is different, but the effect is equally bold. And these color-blocked backgrounds are so striking on their own, bows are optional!

I love having a few birthday cards in my card stash and I'm hoping to make a few more as I'd like to make some with pastel backgrounds and watercolored, birthday cakes.

Wishing you a wonderful week! Thanks for stopping by,
