Hi friends! Now that summer is back with a VENGEANCE here in Central Texas, I'm back to my fiery orange vs. cool blue color schemes in my designs.
I wanted to show you a way to stretch all the beautiful Bold Prints cling backgrounds that Hero Arts has by turning them into shaped elements on your cards.
There are a number of ways you can do this - you can use your Infinity Dies in any shape to create a positive or negative mask, and stamp your background into the opening that leaves. If you stamp the negative space around a circle mask for example, you leave a blank, circular opening in the pattern for a focal image and/or sentiment.
You can use masking tape to create striped openings that you can stamp over to create patterns that alternate with blank space.
I will admit to having an EXTREME affinity for any text style Bold Prints stamp. My most used Bold Print that never leaves my desk is the Script Bold Prints. I use it on nearly every card and always in my art journal. I have promised to dramatically faint if it ever retires.
So I might have squealed REALLY LOUDLY when I saw the beautiful new Calligraphy Bold Prints! I'd love script stamps in many, many languages, and this stunning brush character stamp is stunning. I have a little tip for you on using it in the right orientation at the end of the post.
I used 3" Post-it Tape that I tore in half, and I masked off the right and left sides of my card panel. Then I ink blended Splash and Purple Galaxy Reactive inks onto the opening - the Purple Galaxy darkens the edges. I put that card panel onto my Sticky Mat in my MISTI, and then stamped the Calligraphy stamp over it in Intense Black ink. The reveal was more fun than I can describe.
I used the Glitter Paper Holiday Sparkle Paper and Peace Words Fancy Dies for my sentiment.
I colored the fish from Koi Bunch with OLO Markers and cut them with the matching dies.
I love asemic writing, and so I often stamp script sideways and upside down, but for those occasions when you want to stamp the stamp in the orientation it's meant to be in, here's my tip. Take a Sharpie and compare the stamp to the catalog, and write TOP on the cling foam of the stamp so it's easy to orient!

What a beautiful card. The color is so intense but it doesn’t take away from the script or image. I learned a new word today, “asemic.”
There is so much movement in this card.
Which colors did you use for the koi fish?
Thanks for the glorious card! Wow! Also for the tip on the background stamps….I always want to use script correctly. Another issue I have with these background stamps is that I’d like to know for sure if the script is Japanese, Chinese or another……so I not only want it aligned correctly but I also want the correct type. I have an accent HA character background stamp and I even wrote to them to ask about it…..at the time they had no answer. I love HA and have been a customer since the very beginning (yes, I am old!). Thanks for all the decades of inspiration, terrific product and amazing customer service.
