Hero Arts not only has Color Layering floral stamps, but also actual dimensional layering images where each flower layer can be popped up for a raised, one-a-of kind look.
Today I’m sharing an in depth look at the new Artistic Dahlia and Large Hydrangea stamps and their corresponding layering dies and showing you how to use these to create beautiful dimensional 3D decoupage flowers.
You can use these flowers on their own, meaning without their coordinating dies, or you can combine them with the dies to create unique dimensional florals.
To be able to create a dimensional flower you’ll need to stamp your image several times, as many times as there are dies, so if there are 4 die layers to each flower you’ll need to stamp it at least 3 or 4 times to be able to create that dimension and use your dies to the fullest.

I stamped my images onto watercolor paper and did some quick and basic coloring using watercolors from Daniel Smith Dot Watercolor Palette . You can color your flowers before you die cut them or after, it doesn’t really matter, but if you color them after – you’ll have to do a bit less coloring as you’ll know exactly what part of the image needs to be colored and what needs not to be colored as it will be hidden by the layer on top of it.
When coloring with Daniel Smith Dot Watercolor Palette I like to use a water brush and a clear block. I use waterbrush to pick up my color, next I take it to a clear block and dilute it with water to make it less saturated and then bring it over to my stamped image.
I love to use this watercolor palette for my coloring and I’ve had my main one for over a year. There’s not a lot of watercolor in each dot, but there’s enough to color several small images. This dot chart is also a great way to experience professional quality watercolors at a much lower price.
I used foam adhesive to foam mount each of my layers to create dimension and pop each layer up. This technique is called a 3D decoupage.
3d decoupage is the art of layering paper to create a 3d effect by cutting out elements of varying sizes from a series of identical images and layering them on top of each other, usually with foam adhesive between each layer to give the image more depth.
You can align each layer with the previous one or you can offset the top layer slightly for a more artistic look.
To create backgrounds for my cards I used Abstract Waves stencil , embossing paste and Gold as well as Sparkle embossing powders. My sentiments came from a Thank You Messages set and were heat embossed in White embossing powder onto black cardstock.
Lastly, I used a black pigment pen and added black centers to my hydrangea flowers.
