Summer is flying by so quickly, I want to embrace every minute of the warm weather and sunshine. In that spirit, today I’m sharing a pair of “sunny” summer cards that I made with some simple stenciling. I used the Clouds and Grass Scenic stencil and the Waves Scenic stencil to create two cards with different backgrounds and large suns. I’m hoping that these cards will brighten the day for a few friends.
For my first card, I started by stenciling the large sun, from the Clouds and Grass Scenic stencil, onto a piece of Dove White cardstock. Using several of the wonderful, new Ink Blending Brushes, I blended four Reactive inks, Lemon Drop, Creamsicle, Taffy and Fruit Punch, over the stencil. I cut around the sun shape with a Nesting Circle Infinity die and set it aside. To create a sunny face, I colored some white cardstock with Lemon Drop ink and then cut the cardstock with a small circle die. I stamped an adorable smiley face from the Bunch of Balloons stamp set onto the circle, inked the cheeks with markers, and then secured it to the sun with foam tape. This happy sun will become the focal point of the card.
To create the background, I repeatedly inked one of the cloud edges, on the Clouds and Grass Scenic stencil, across a trimmed panel of white cardstock. Starting at the upper edge of the panel, I lightly applied Taffy ink over the cloud edge. I did this twice more, each time lowering the stencil on the panel and repositioning it before applying ink. Varying the stencil’s position will create a more realistic cloud background. I continued to ink clouds onto the panel with Creamsicle and Lemon Drop inks until it was entirely covered. Then, I used a large Nesting Circle Infinity die to cut a circle from the panel’s right side. I secured the stenciled background to a Pebble card base and then added the sun to the card with foam tape.
Next, I stamped two balloons from the Bunch of Balloons set with Intens-ified Black ink and cut around them with the matching Bunch of Balloons Frame Cuts. After masking and coloring the balloons with Reactive ink, I secured them to the card with Precision Glue. I finished the card with a fun sentiment strip that I heat embossed with Clear Embossing ink and White Embossing Powder onto Pitch Black cardstock.
For my second card, I decided to create a sunrise over a wavy sea. This time, I only stenciled half of the sun onto a white semicircle. I also secured the sun to a larger semicircle that I inked to match the smiling face. To create the wavy sea, I started by masking the upper portion of a white cardstock panel. Then, using the Waves Scenic stencil with Splash and Blue Hawaii Reactive inks, I repeatedly inked over one of the wavy edges, moving the stencil down and repositioning it each time until the panel was covered.
After securing the stenciled panel to a card base, I stenciled several seagulls, from the Clouds and Grass Scenic stencil, into the sky with Licorice Reactive ink. Then, I secured the sun to the card along the water’s edge. Using the Graphic Reef stamp set, I added a pair of sailboats, die cut with the Graphic Reef Frame Cuts, and a humorous, embossed sentiment to the card with foam tape.
