When I saw the Abstract Linocut Bold Prints background stamp, it was love at first sight! Not only does it bring back memories of my first attempts at printmaking in a junior high art class (anyone else?), but the abstract lines remind me of rustic woodgrain. It’s the perfect inspiration for creating a pair of woodsy, seasonal Thank You cards for the current Stay Crafty card challenge.
For my first card, I stamped three pieces of white cardstock with the Abstract Linocut Bold Prints background using Cup O’Joe, Tide Pool and Strawberry inks. I trimmed a panel of the brown background, with horizontal stripes, to fit across the card front. I also cut a narrow strip of the red, vertical-striped background and taped the strip against the lower edge of the brown panel on the back side. To inlay a large heart, I used a Nesting Hearts Infinity Die to cut out a heart from the taped panel. Then, I used the same heart die to cut a vertical-striped heart from the pool panel. I placed the die-cut heart into the background and taped it in place on the back. I secured the inlaid panel to the front of a Dove White Side Folded Card.
Next, I used Intens-ified Black ink to stamp a pair of young deer from the Love You Deerly set that I colored with colored pencils and then cut around with the Love You Deerly Frame Cuts. I couldn’t resist adding the cozy scarves to these cuties. I also stamped and fussy cut a Thank You banner, with Strawberry ink, using the Thank You Messages set. I secured all three pieces to the card with foam tape. Then, I stamped an additional sentiment along the lower card edge. To finish the card, I scattered a trio of tiny, die-cut Cherry hearts to the card with Precision Glue.
Using most of the same supplies and some stamped scraps, I made a second Thank You card. To create the background, I secured vertical-striped Abstract Linocut Bold Prints stamped strips to a white card base, overlapping each strip to create the illusion of layered fringe. It’s an easy and different way to use this background to achieve an entirely new look.
For the upper panel, I stamped two sweet squirrels from the Christmas Squirrels Stamp & Cut set onto a piece of white cardstock. After coloring the critters with colored pencils, I similarly added a Thank You banner and sentiment, plus a trio of tiny Mist cardstock hearts to the panel. Before securing the panel to the card with foam tape, I trimmed the edge with a narrow strip of brown, linocut stamped cardstock.
Since I never know exactly when I’ll need one, I’m happy to have this pair of handmade Thank You cards in my stash. I hope that you’re inspired to create a few Thank You cards and to enter them in the current card challenge.
