Learn How to Build Beautiful Layers with a Mixed Media Style

Hello friends, it's Natasha back on the blog today! I am here to share an idea using a Fancy Die to create a mixed media tag! Today I am using the Flowery Vines Fancy Die as my focal point! So let's get started!  

I started by die cutting the Flowery Vines Die using Palm Cardstock.  I also die cut the florals using Papaya Cardstock. Next I ink-blended the leaves and flowers for extra dimension. For the leaves I use Forever Green, Caramel, and Cup of Joe Core Ink. On the flowers I used Pumpkin, Cranberry, Raspberry Jam, and Plum Core Inks.

Next I started to work on the tag background.  I die cut a piece of Dove White Cardstock using the Nesting Tag Dies and my Spellbinders Platinum 6. I then created an ink-blended background onto the tag using Reactive Inks. I started with Lemon Drop, then Pool Party, and last Root Beer Ink. I applied the inks using a Small BIendinBrush. I added water droplets as well for more texture. Next I added texture to the background using two stamp sets: Vintage Map and Ledger and  Vintage Postmarks and Tickets.  

Then I chose a butterfly from the Butterfly Hero Transfers set. Once the image was transferred I fussy cut the butterfly. I added texture to the butterfly by heat embossing with Sand Embossing Powder, as well as Hero Wax in Icelandic.  

Finally I adhered all the layers together onto the tag base. Behind the Flowery Vines I added a piece of card board. I love the added dimension this gives. On top of the cardboard, I added a piece of cheesecloth. I then adhered the Flowery Vines using Precision Glue. I trimmed off the excess of the vines and added them to various parts of the tag. I also used some ephemera from the Vintage Map and Ledger, as well as the Vintage Postmarks and Tickets stamp sets. I chose a sentiment from the Everyday Sentiments Stamp Set. I have these sentiments pre-made and ready to add to future projects. I completed the project by adding Pitch Black Ink to the edges of the tag, as well as black twine to the top of the tag! I also added a button from my stash.
