Hi friends! I'm here today with a fun, easy, layered mixed media card. Layering makes the details on your cards so, so interesting, so let's walk through the layers on today's card.
I started by smooshing Fog and Purple Galaxy Reactive Inks onto my glass mat and stamping the image from Artichoke Blooms in Fog as well.
I used a waterbrush and the smooshed ink to color the artichoke. Then I got into the details with shadows using some Derwent Chromaflow pencils - adding a warmer green and a darker purple to bring dimension to the beautiful artichoke . I cut it with the coordinating dies in the bundle .
Next, I sprayed a panel of watercolor paper with water, and dropped Terracotta and Dandelion Liquid Watercolor onto it. I scrunched up a piece of cling wrap on the wet paper and set it aside to dry. That created the angular pops of color on the background. I have a video on this technique here .
Have you heard of asemic writing? It's a way of deliberately obscuring writing so that it just looks like abstract patterning. One easy way to build a layer of asemic writing is to use your text stamps upside down! It makes the already pretty abstract text in the Script Bold Prints background stamp even more abstract. Tricks like this put more focus on the focal point, because your brain isn't trying to decipher this beautiful text - it just becomes a textural element. The text is stamped in Just Rust .
The contrast of cool and warm is what I think makes for a great mixed media composition. Think about that contrast when building your layers. You can see the difference the warm green pencil makes against the cool Fog ink layer.
The sentiments are from the Artichoke Blooms set as well. The closeup shows you those fun angular shapes from the cling wrap.
