Lawn ornaments, from flamingos to pinwheels, are an extremely popular way to decorate summer yards and gardens. Now, with the new Lawn Ornaments Fancy Dies set, it’s easy to create these same iconic ornaments to decorate your handmade cards. This summertime set includes five, detailed dies to make a flamingo, a pinwheel and a section of grass.
To make today’s cards, I started by making two card bases from Periwinkle cardstock. Then, using a Nesting Rectangle Infinity Die smaller than a card front, I die cut two Periwinkle panels. Using one edge of the versatile Clouds and Grass Scenic Stencil, an Ink Blending Brush, and Unicorn ink, I repeatedly positioned the cloud stencil on each panel and then applied ink over the edge to create simple but beautiful cloud backgrounds. I secured each inked panel to a card base with foam tape.
To make the pinwheel card, I started by die cutting one pinwheel from Dove White cardstock and securing it to the card with foam tape. Next, I die cut four more pinwheels, one each from Bermuda, Cherry, Mustard, and Peacock cardstock. Following the embossed lines from the die, I fussy cut four individual blades which I secured onto the white pinwheel with Precision Glue. I die cut a single stake and glued it below the pinwheel.
To finish the card, I stamped a cute sentiment and small heart from the Flower Girls set with Embossing & Watermark Ink onto Cherry cardstock and then heat embossed them with White Embossing Powder. I used the Flower Girls Frame Cuts to trim around the heart. To finish, I scattered a trio of blue enamel dots across the card.
To make the flamingo card, I die cut four flamingo bodies from Peony cardstock and then glued them together for extra strength and dimension. I also die cut an additional flamingo body and two legs from Ultra Pink cardstock. Following the intricate die design, I fussy cut a beak and a wing which I added to the flamingo for extra color and interest. Using scraps of Pine and Shamrock cardstock, I cut six sections of grass that I glued along the lower edge of the background panel.
Using the Flower Girls set again, I embossed another fun sentiment onto Pitch Black cardstock and stamped several small flowers with Intens-ified Black ink. After adding each of these elements to the card, I added a pair of white enamel dots for some shine.
