Hello friends! I’m Debi Adams and today I am featuring a couple of my favorite die-cutting sets from the new Hero Arts Winter Catalog... Paper Layering Poinsettia, Joy Ornament Fancy Die, and Gift Card Holder Fancy Die. Although Christmas colors are traditionally red and green, I like going outside of the box so I chose pink and aqua for my palette. I have a new theme and/or color to my Christmas wrapping every year so this is nothing unusual. What about you? Anyway, I had intended to make one project but somehow ended up making three projects because it kept snowballing into another one.
First up is a clean and simple greeting card where the background was created from varying shades of pink and aqua cardstock and adhered to a Dove White Top Folded Card base. The Joy Ornament Fancy Die was cut from Dove White Cardstock and gold poster board, layered together and adhered to the colored card base. The Paper Layering Poinsettia was cut from pink and gold cardstock and attached to the card using adhesive and foam dots. Easy peasy!
My second project just looks like a card, and it could be, but it actually has three different applications. Surprisingly, but not unusual, the poinsettia was able to be cut from thin felt. I layered the Poinsettia together, attached a tiny white pom-pom ball to the center and attached it to a piece of decorated stretchy elastic. (You can make your own by cutting the elastic to a specific length and adhering the ends together). This is perfect to wrap around a gift and can be recycled over and over. It’s also perfect for a baby head band! It makes a great gift or can be used at a baby shower for a headband-making station. Oh so many possibilities. And of course, it can be stretched over a slimline card base to become the decor for a card. My base for this headband was Paradise Cardstock.
And my last project is something that had been swirling around my head for a while. I loved the Gift Card Holder Fancy Die but wondered if it could be made into a box and actually hold the gift tags. Ah, just an adjustment or two and it completely worked!
Using Dove White Cardstock, cut out two of the gift card holders. Cut out a 2 1/2” wide by 5” strip of Dove White Cardstock, scoring one end at 1/2” and the other end 2”. Cut a 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” square of white cardstock.
Fold both of the card holders as indicated, having one folded in the opposite direction. Attach back sides together. Attach smaller tab of pre-cut and hand scored cardstock to inside of back area. See photo below.
Fold the box sides in and adhere tabs to the inside of the cut 2 1/2” x 5”. The bottom tabs get adhered to the bottom of the box. Attach square cardstock to bottom of box for extra support and to hide the mechanics.
To make it festive, die-cut some of the poinsettias and leaves from paper, gold poster board and felt and attach to the front of the box. Now your box is ready to be filled with all your tags and holders.
